Position SummaryThe Civil Engineer will support capital‑funded elevated structure repair projects by conducting condition surveys, prioritizing repairs, reviewing design packages, and performing construction inspections. The role also includes responding to RFIs and submittals to ensure compliance with NYCT standards.
ResponsibilitiesThis position is responsible for providing technical engineering guidance to the Infrastructure Iron group for capital‑funded, fracture‑critical elevated member repair projects, ensuring that NYCT structures are maintained in a state of good repair. The Civil Engineer will support Design‑Build and Design‑Bid‑Build Station and Line Structure Capital Projects by conducting and verifying joint condition surveys, tracking and prioritizing required repairs, and reviewing PRDC packages and design drawings.
Responsibilities also include performing pre‑pour inspections—including steel, rebar, and formwork verification—as well as pre‑final and final inspections to confirm construction quality and compliance. The role further requires the review and response to RFIs and submittals to ensure full adherence to NYCT engineering standards and specifications.

Note:
To be eligible for placement at Assignment Levels II and III, individuals must have at least one year within the last three years of experience as a major contributor or a project leader on a complex project requiring additional and specific expertise in the disciplines needed to design or construct the project.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively within a team.
- Proficiency in MS Office, internet and mobile applications, Micro Station, and nonconformity tracking databases.
- Knowledge of structural inspection practices for concrete and steel.
- Ability to read and produce technical drawings, reports, and engineering correspondence.
- Thorough understanding of construction design requirements and applicable codes across multiple city agencies.
