Role Purpose

Corning Advanced-Flow Reactor™ (AFR) is a global leader in end‑to‑end flow chemical processing for pharma, fine chemicals, agrochemicals, specialty chemicals, and high‑performance materials industries. AFR seeks an Application Engineer for the North American market to act as the technical contact between customers and Corning, actively participating in chemical process development, collaborating with cross‑functional teams, and ensuring smooth implementation of processes at customer sites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Understand current and prospective customers’ chemistry, products, and needs; align them with Corning technical capabilities.
  • Engage with Corning scientists and engineers to demonstrate feasibility of key chemical steps, and actively participate in experiments.
  • Provide sales support (technical visits, product presentations, technical offers, trade‑show participation, and contribution to scientific research papers).
  • Oversee FAT/SAT, installation, education/training, commissioning, and startup of reactors, dosing lines, and downstream operations.
  • Support customers in paperwork and procedures: design IQ/OQ plans, develop FAT/SAT documentation.
  • Assist with debugging and ramping manufacturing to expected performance; collect customer feedback and resolve issues.
  • Bridge customer requirements with internal specialists (Engineering, R&D, sales, quality) to ensure seamless coordination.
  • Share on‑site customer insights with relevant teams, including input for AFR product and roadmap development.
  • Contribute to the elaboration of operating procedure manuals for the equipment.
  • Develop and write application notes to support customers.
Experiences/Education
- Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands‑on experience in chemical synthesis with a strong experimental background.
  • Proven experience in safety planning, including safety assessments and creation of safety plans.
  • Experience with a variety of chemical analytical methods.
  • Skill in structured experiment planning and execution.
  • Ability to work autonomously and proactively at customer sites.
  • Excellent problem‑solving, decision‑making, and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills in a multicultural environment.
  • Hands‑on technical problem‑solving skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to unexpected situations.
  • Resilience and ability to manage stressful situations.
  • Leadership and negotiation skills.
  • Travel up to 75%.
Experiences/Education
- Desired
  • Experience with hazardous chemical handling.
  • Specialization in inorganic chemistry.
  • Experience transferring a chemical process from lab to pilot or manufacturing.

Compensation

Salary range: $ – $ (full‑time). Pay is dependent on location, market, experience, training, and education.
