Position Overview
Advanced Technology Engineer needed by Brookhaven National Laboratory, managed by Brookhaven Science Associates, LLC in Upton, New York. Responsibilities include designing, testing, and implementing integrated hardware solutions such as equipment racks and electrical instrumentation chassis needed for robust and reliable controls and data acquisition at the experimental stations of NSLS-II. Interact with scientists and engineers to identify hardware integration requirements, outline potential solutions, and create project proposals.
Example systems to integrate include general-purpose I/O enclosures, motion interfaces, electronics racks, and computers. Manage hardware integration projects within DSSI, refine requirements, design, implement, test, and document solutions. Serve as a subject matter expert, consulting DSSI teams and facility staff on best practices and approaches in hardware integration, ensuring facility and system standards are met. Contribute to the development of various layers in the DSSI technology stack, such as hardware drivers, control system software, and user interfaces.
Maintain electrical safety.
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering.
- 4 years of experience in the job offered or 4 years of experience in a related occupation.
- 4 years of experience integrating hardware into control systems, generating detailed technical documentation (schematics, system drawings, design documentation, and requirements specifications), and working with test equipment including multimeters, oscilloscopes, function generators, digital power supplies, and logic analyzers.
Advanced Technology Engineers earn between $127,300 to $159,700 yearly. ERAP eligible – $1,000.
Security RequirementsAll employees must produce a REAL‑ REAL‑ document to access Brookhaven National Laboratory, and must obtain and maintain a DOE Uncleared Personal Identity Verification (UPIV) credential in accordance with federal and departmental requirements.
