Planning Engineer

We're seeking an Interconnections Associate Planning Engineer to support critical transmission planning initiatives focused on the integration of offshore wind, battery energy storage (BESS), public policy transmission, and emerging clean energy technologies. This role offers the opportunity to work directly on projects shaping New York's clean energy future while collaborating with utilities, developers, and the NYISO.

As part of the Transmission Planning team, you'll perform power system studies, evaluate grid impacts of new generation and transmission projects, and help identify the system upgrades required to maintain a reliable and resilient electric grid.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform transmission interconnection studies for renewable generation, offshore wind, battery energy storage, and transmission projects.
• Conduct power flow, short circuit, and system impact analyses using industry-standard software.
• Evaluate impacts of new generation and transmission projects on the bulk electric system.
• Identify transmission and substation upgrades required to maintain system reliability.
• Support engineering studies related to transmission planning and interconnections.
• Interface with NYISO, renewable developers, and internal engineering teams throughout project development.
• Assist in developing technical recommendations and study reports for NYISO interconnection processes.
• Support system planning activities that ensure compliance with reliability standards and grid modernization initiatives.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related Engineering discipline.
• Minimum 2 years of engineering experience, including at least 1 year supporting the planning, design, or operation of the bulk electric transmission system.
• Understanding of electric transmission systems, substations, and power system operations.
• Experience using PSS®E, TARA, ASPEN One Liner, or similar power system modeling software.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical communication skills.
• Valid driver's license.

Preferred Experience

• Transmission Planning or Interconnection Studies.
• Renewable Energy Integration (Wind, Solar, Battery Energy Storage).
• Bulk Electric System (BES) analysis.
• NYISO, ISO/RTO market or interconnection experience.
• Power Flow, Short Circuit, and System Impact Studies.
• Grid Modernization and Clean Energy projects.
