Kiewit seeks a mid‑level Geotechnical Engineer to support engineering assignments across all Kiewit construction models, including design‑build, progressive design‑build, CMGC, CMAR, EPC, ECI and traditional bid‑build. The engineer will design temporary structures such as cofferdams, gravity retaining walls, MSE walls, soil nail walls, and support excavations, working throughout all project phases from estimate through construction. Responsibilities include producing construction documents, design memorandums, and collaborating with structural, civil, drainage, and materials engineers, estimators, and schedulers.
LocationThis position is based in Woodcliff Lake, NJ or New York, NY and requires travel to project offices and work sites, including periodic field assignments as business necessitates.
Responsibilities- Provide project support during the proposal/bid phase, working with team members to identify and evaluate innovative and cost-effective design solutions.
- Assist the pursuit team in identifying key design risks and developing mitigation plans.
- Produce, review, and provide Employer of Record responsibilities of detailed calculation packages, drawings, and design memorandums.
- Train and develop staff engineers.
- Other requirements: reliable attendance, meet deadlines, communicate professionally, perform work safely, work during normal operating hours and overtime as required, and work at various locations.
- Master’s degree, or equivalent experience, in Geotechnical Engineering or a closely related field, required.
- 5+ years of relevant geotechnical engineering experience on construction related projects in the U.S.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in the U.S., required.
- Demonstrated broad technical knowledge of geot-structural design and geotechnical engineering, including deep foundations, shallow foundations, slope stability, seismic engineering, retaining wall design, earth retention, rock mechanics, settlement of compressible soils, ground improvement techniques, excavation support, and dewatering.
- Experience with cofferdams and support of excavation is required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a demonstrated focus on interdisciplinary design coordination and coordination between Engineering and Construction.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships among team members.
- Ability to travel to project sites and access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environmental conditions.
- EPC or Design-Build experience is preferred.
Base Compensation: $115,000 – $155,000/yr (Actual compensation varies with education, experience, skill set, and/or location).
