Location: New York
HDR is an employee‑owned firm committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We are seeking an experienced professional to serve as the NY/NJ Area Wastewater Market Sector Lead within HDR’s Water Business Group.
Responsibilities- Advance business development strategies, pursuing new clients and projects in wastewater treatment, effluent management, pump stations, pipelines, biosolids, and One Water collaborations across New York and New Jersey.
- Lead key projects and provide technical input while managing client relationships and coordinating multiple project teams.
- Serve as client manager for selected key clients, addressing client issues and ensuring high‑level coordination.
- Collaborate with technical, marketing, and geographic partners to develop and deliver pursuit strategies and capture techniques.
- Participate as a member of the NY/NJ Area Water Business Group Leadership Team.
- Support staff development, recruiting, and mentoring for wastewater staff and emerging talent.
- Assist in project delivery, QA/QC, contract review, and lessons‑learned dissemination for key projects in the sector.
- Implement market‑sector initiatives, cross‑sector collaborations, and industry‑leadership efforts.
- B.S. in Engineering or related field.
- Professional engineering registration in New York and/or New Jersey or eligibility to obtain it.
- 10+ years of experience in wastewater planning, design, construction, and client relationship management.
- Strong technical background in wastewater treatment systems.
- Proven experience in strategic positioning, technical differentiation, and managing client‑facing pursuits.
- Demonstrated staff‑development experience, including recruiting and career‑path development.
- Active involvement in industry associations and observable market‑sector visibility.
- Collaborative working style with regional, market‑sector, business‑class, and client‑management teams.
- Minimum 10 years of industry experience in planning or engineering services.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, planning, or a related field.
- Experience developing and managing strategic marketing programs and client relationships.
- Experience in staff development and building professional growth opportunities.
- Active participation in industry associations.
- Capability to work cooperatively across multiple business sectors and client‑facing roles.
- Commitment to HDR values and employee‑owned culture.
