Job Title

NY/NJ Major Bridges Leader

Responsibilities

The primary duties of the NY/NJ Major Bridges Leader include planning, directing, and monitoring all aspects of multi‑disciplined bridge projects with a high degree of technical complexity, involving a diverse project staff. The candidate will provide technical oversight and coordination of several projects concurrently and will participate in design and production of schematic, design development, and contract document work in conjunction with Project Managers, appropriate technical professionals, and other disciplines.

The role ensures project deliverables and supporting documentation are complete, understandable, and conform to applicable industry standards and client and HDR requirements.

Additional duties include overseeing or serving in a lead technical or problem‑solving role on bridge design projects. The leader will perform complex structural planning, analysis, and design for all structural aspects of transportation projects—including suspension, cable‑stay, arch, segmental, extradosed, steel, and prestressed concrete bridges. The role will serve as a technical specialist, supervise junior and mid‑level engineers, mentor less experienced bridge designers, and develop QA/QC procedures.

The leader will also manage, support, or lead major pursuits, participate in the selection of key staff nationally/globally, and identify strategic hires for HDR’s Bridge program.

Preferred Qualifications
  • BS/MS in Structural Engineering or closely related field is required.
  • New York or New Jersey PE license strongly preferred; PE licensure in other states highly desirable and ability to obtain reciprocity with other states as needed.
  • SE license desirable.
  • 15+ years project and client management experience with significant project experience.
  • MS Office experience.
  • Effective communication, leadership, planning, and mentoring skills.
  • Ability to interact with various design teams; excellent organizational, project management, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated performance coaching and mentoring of less experienced staff.
  • Versatility in software:
    Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, AutoCAD Inventor, Civil 3D, Rhino, Revit, Micro Station, Larsa 4D Bridge…
