Salary Range: $116,641 to $145,800

Agency Mission

MTA Construction & Development (C&D) is responsible for the planning, development, and execution of all capital construction projects across the MTA region. Through centralized oversight and management of the MTA’s $64 billion Capital Program, C&D ensures the efficient delivery of critical infrastructure projects that support the region’s vast transportation network. Telework

This position is eligible for telework, which is currently one day per week. New hires are eligible to apply 30 days after their effective date of hire.

Job Summary

Engineering Manager Level 2 will be involved in all phases of an MTA C&D project lifecycle, including planning, scheduling, analysis, design, technical specifications, and reports. The role will entail some of these typical duties.

Responsibilities
  • Designs/supervises various aspects of a project for MTA infrastructure.
  • Performs technical and feasibility studies, including analyzing historical data, surveys, reports, and as‑builts to create innovative engineering design projects.
  • Reviews designs, tests, assesses materials and performs/reviews engineering calculations.
  • Conducts site visits to obtain existing conditions and correctly identify design and construction risks.
  • Plans and coordinates required permitting and approval documentation that supports their designs.
  • Manages a small team of design engineers.
  • Embraces mentoring from senior staff.
  • Adheres to corporate quality control standards within the discipline.
  • Coordinates with other in‑house engineering disciplines as needed.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science degree in the appropriate engineering disciplines (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Structural, Communications, Track, Signals, Environmental, Fire Protection).
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of related experience.
  • Minimum of four (4) years in a management or supervisory role and/or project manager role in a large, multi‑faced organization.
Competencies
  • A registered NYS licensed professional engineer (PE) is required.
  • Experience performing site inspections, documenting site conditions and construction activities, coordinating with Agency Owner and contractor staff, and responding to contractor requests for information.
  • Knowledge of applicable industry and NYS building and design codes and standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Focus and ability to deliver results, organizational effectiveness, and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent team‑building, listening, problem‑solving, and prioritization skills.
  • Proficiency in current design and engineering software and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience interpreting engineering reports and analysis.
  • Commitment to actively participating in our employee culture.
  • Ability to multi‑task and be flexible/adapt to rapidly changing project requirements/timelines.
  • Knowledge of the capital design and construction process.
