Position Overview
As an Electrical Designer/Coordinator at Atwell, LLC you will play a crucial role in supporting project teams through design work on both overhead and underground distribution electrical facilities, addressing intricate engineering challenges across a variety of projects and collaborating with electric utilities and private developers.
Key Responsibilities- Overhead line work including pole replacement, PCB transformer replacements, large infrastructure projects, line expansions, distribution generation, line refurbishment, and new construction (wood and composite poles).
- Grid modernization tasks such as smart switch and battery storage upgrades, switch replacements, internal line conversions, rebuilds, voltage conversions, and major projects.
- Underground line work including replacement of underground feeders, splicing, installation of pad mounts, secondary enclosures, and switch gears, and designing overhead to underground transitions.
- New customer connections covering residential, commercial, subdivision, street lighting, and upgrade work on existing connections.
- Designing overhead and underground distribution electrical facilities, system improvement of pole locations, substation design, and service design.
- Addressing diverse engineering challenges on projects of varying sizes and scopes while maintaining precision and technical expertise.
- Verifying as-built conditions in GIS/AUD and correcting any discrepancies with field data as part of engineering submissions.
- Apply problem‑solving skills for large utility clients.
- Utilize and learn engineering software packages for distribution design.
- Communicate effectively with Project Manager and Team Leader to manage workload status and meet chargeability goals.
- Background in Electric Distribution, Natural Gas Distribution, and/or Communications (Fiber).
- Strong math and engineering skills, including structural analysis, sag analysis, basic algebra, and geometry.
- Understanding and adherence to the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and client requirements.
- Knowledge of NESC, Arc Fm GIS, SAP, and Work Manager Software.
- Minimum 2+ years of relevant experience.
- Proficiency in Micro Station, AutoCAD, or GIS (required).
- Automated Utility Design (AUD) experience is a bonus.
- Familiarity with design software such as PLS CADD, PLS POLE, SPIDACalc, Quick Pole, CDEGS, CYMECAP, CYMEDIST, CYMETCC, SAG
