Process Engineer

Role Purpose

Corning is hiring a Process Engineer based in Corning, NY
. This is an onsite role with relocation assistance available. Travel is a key part of the position and typically runs 50% or more depending on project needs, primarily within the U.S., with occasional international travel.

• Lead and support the design and development of new processes or improvements to existing processes at Corning facilities worldwide.
• Lead yourself and teams toward solving problems and improving processes based on fundamental understanding and structured problem‑solving methods (e.g., KT, Designed Experimentation, Six Sigma).
• Lead the implementation of process control and process discipline systems into manufacturing operations; use analytical skills to analyze process data with statistical tools such as pareto, regression, time charting, analysis of variance, gauge R&R, etc.
• Measure and communicate performance against established objectives; review and interpret data to recommend immediate actions, long‑term corrective actions, follow‑up experiments, and document processes and mentor operators and peers.

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical, materials, ceramic, or mechanical engineering.
• 5+ years hands‑on experience in engineering/manufacturing with a track record of successfully solving process problems based on fundamental understanding.
• Demonstrated use of scientific method and engineering principles to solve problems thoroughly and effectively, using well‑designed and executed processes and experiment plans.
• Ability to determine and recommend the best solution from a series of alternatives within production facility guidelines.
• Strong data analysis and statistical skills; proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Minitab, or equivalent.
• Basic process capability/run charting and trend charting experience.
• Deep knowledge of process excellence.
• Experience completing projects in a manufacturing organization, including written and verbal communication to leadership and appropriate documentation.
• Ability to collaborate across organizational boundaries and integrate solutions.
• Willing and able to travel an average of 50% primarily domestically.

• Master’s degree in chemical, materials, ceramic, or mechanical engineering.
• Prior experience in a plant or division engineering group.
• Strong internal Corning network.
• Performance Excellence training—ideally Green Belt or higher certification—LEAN Manufacturing.
• PMP certification.
• Mechanical aptitude/equipment understanding.

The pay range for this position is $97,286.00 – $ for full‑time status, depending on factors such as location, market demands, experience, training and education.

Average travel is 50% primarily within the United States; international travel may occur as project needs dictate.
