CORE Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CORE), a New York City-based engineering and environmental consulting firm, is seeking a motivated, experienced Civil or Environmental Engineer to join our College Point, New York office.
The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering and approximately five to eight years of relevant professional experience. Candidates should possess strong engineering design, drafting, technical writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills, along with practical experience navigating local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, flexible, and personable professional with strong attention to detail who can work both independently and collaboratively as part of a growing, high-performing team. The Project Engineer will be responsible for supporting and managing environmental engineering design, regulatory compliance, site investigation, remediation, and construction-related projects.
This is a full-time, in-person position based in our College Point, New York office and requires regular travel to project sites throughout the New York metropolitan area for inspections, fieldwork, construction observation, client meetings, and other project-related activities.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Prepare engineering design and construction documents for petroleum bulk storage tank systems, fueling facilities, environmental remediation systems, and related civil and environmental projects.
- Develop technical specifications, prepare cost estimates, and assist with permit applications and regulatory submissions.
- Manage field activities, including environmental assessments, subsurface investigations, site inspections, soil and groundwater sampling, monitoring well installation, construction observation, and subcontractor oversight.
- Prepare and review technical reports, feasibility studies, investigation work plans, remedial action plans, engineering reports, design drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
- Independently manage assigned project tasks and smaller projects, including coordination of technical staff, subcontractors, laboratories, contractors, clients, and regulatory agencies.
- Support the management of medium-to-large and technically complex projects to ensure that scope, budget, schedule, quality, and client expectations are met.
- Review technical work prepared by junior engineers and environmental professionals and provide guidance as appropriate.
- Participate in client meetings, site meetings, and communications with regulatory agencies.
- Assist with proposal development, including preparation of scopes of work, project schedules, staffing plans, and fee estimates.
- Perform local travel for site visits, field assignments, and client meetings. Occasional short- or long-term assignments may be required.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle. CORE reimburses employees for authorized mileage and toll expenses.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university.
- Five to eight years of relevant engineering or environmental consulting experience.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Micro Station.
- Experience preparing engineering drawings, technical reports, specifications, permit applications, and other project deliverables.
- Working knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and work effectively within project budgets and schedules.
- Preferred Qualifications
- New York State Professional Engineer license or the ability to obtain professional licensure in the near term.
- OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification.
- Experience with petroleum bulk storage systems, fueling facilities, environmental remediation, spill response, or soil and groundwater investigations.
- Experience coordinating with regulatory agencies, contractors, and subcontractors.
- Previous project or task management experience.

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $90,000 to $110,000 annually. The offered rate of compensation will be based on the selected candidate’s education, qualifications, professional licensure, and relevant experience.
