The Engineer Trainee/Assistant Engineer position with the New York Department of Transportation involves designing capital highway and bridge projects, preparing construction plans and estimates, and performing construction inspection and quality control work under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer. The role is located in Hornell, NY (Region 6 Steuben) and includes a 24-month traineeship leading to advancement to Assistant Engineer upon obtaining the FE exam.
Keyqualifications
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering field; or passing the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam with one year of engineering experience
- One year of full-time qualifying engineering experience with transportation projects related to highways, roadways, bridges, airports, or traffic management
- Proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) for Assistant Engineer positions
- Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
- Educational credentials from regionally or nationally accredited institutions
