Facility Project Engineer

Full Time Professional Head Office

15 days ago Requisition

Salary Range: $ To $ Annually

JOB DESCRIPTION

The primary purpose of the Facility Project Engineer is to develop and execute capital, improvement, maintenance, and carbon mitigation projects across the Dresden site — spanning the 106 MW natural gas-fired steam (Rankine-cycle) power plant and the co-located data center operation. Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Facility Project Engineer leads projects from concept through scoping, engineering, budgeting, procurement, execution, and commissioning, coordinating internal teams and outside contractors to deliver work safely, on schedule, and within budget.

The role applies engineering, reliability, and cost-benefit analysis to identify, justify, and prioritize the projects — including emissions and carbon-reduction initiatives — that deliver the greatest value to the site.

DESIRED OUTCOMES
  • Capital, improvement, and carbon mitigation projects delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget across the power plant and data center.
  • A well-developed, well-justified project and capital pipeline prioritized by value, risk, and emissions impact.
  • Successful outage and project execution with minimal disruption to power generation and data center operations.
  • Measurable progress on carbon mitigation and emissions-reduction goals.
  • Improved site performance, reliability, and compliance resulting from completed projects.
  • Effective management of contractors, vendors, and project documentation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and execute capital, improvement, maintenance, and carbon mitigation projects across the power plant and data center, from concept through commissioning and closeout.
  • Lead project scoping, engineering, cost estimating, scheduling, and budgeting; track and report project cost and schedule performance.
  • Develop and execute carbon mitigation and emissions-reduction projects — efficiency upgrades, emissions controls, and related initiatives — and track results against site goals.
  • Serve as the company's heat rate (thermal performance) leader and subject-matter expert (SME) for the ETAPRO performance monitoring system — tracking, analyzing, and improving unit thermal efficiency and identifying performance-improvement projects.
  • Manage procurement, contractors, and vendors; oversee field execution so work is completed safely, correctly, and on schedule.
  • Lead outage planning and execution — developing scope, work packages, and inspection lists with the maintenance and operations teams.
  • Support site capital planning — identify, justify, and prioritize capital projects and major equipment replacements using reliability and cost-benefit analysis (RCFA, asset criticality, and predictive data).
  • Oversee the high-energy piping inspection program, ensuring scheduled inspections, documentation, and compliance for high-energy steam piping and associated systems.
  • Prepare and maintain project documentation, engineering records, and reporting to support auditability and regulatory readiness.
TEAM
  • Reports to — Plant Manager
  • Works closely with — Head of Power Plant Maintenance, Head of Power Plant Operations and Pipeline, Electrical Engineer, and the data center operations and infrastructure teams
  • Role type — Individual technical contributor — manages project teams and contractors, no direct reports
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
  • BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related technical field, with 3–7 years of project or plant engineering experience, or equivalent applicable experience.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing capital or maintenance projects, preferably at a power generation, data center, or heavy-industrial facility.
  • Experience with project scoping, cost estimating, scheduling, and contractor management.
  • Familiarity with carbon mitigation, emissions controls, or energy-efficiency projects is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of thermal performance / heat rate analysis, performance monitoring software (e.g., ETAPRO), reliability methods,…
