This position can sit out of several locations across northern New Jersey and the New York Metro area.
Our client is a well-established and growing civil engineering firm seeking a Site Civil Leader to guide a talented team, manage key client relationships, and take ownership of a diverse land development portfolio. You will have the autonomy to lead your practice area like a business, backed by the resources and stability of a respected firm.
This is not a production-heavy role, and you will not be measured against utilization or billability targets. Instead, your success will be defined by the strength of your team, the quality of your client relationships, and the successful delivery of your projects.
What You’ll OwnYou will lead a team of 4–8 site civil professionals, including a secondary team lead, while overseeing projects from initial due diligence through approvals and construction support.
You will serve as the technical, client-facing, and cultural leader of the group, with responsibility for:
- Leading, mentoring, and developing a team of engineers and technical professionals
- Managing multiple land development projects from early feasibility through permitting, approvals, and construction
- Serving as the primary point of contact and trusted advisor to clients
- Identifying entitlement, permitting, design, and constructability risks early in the process
- Providing high-level technical guidance and quality control without being responsible for day-to-day CAD production
- Overseeing workload planning, project schedules, budgets, and overall performance
- Preparing and supporting proposals, presentations, and public meetings
- Building strong relationships with municipalities, reviewing agencies, contractors, and development partners
- Supporting business development and helping expand existing client relationships
- Creating an engaged, accountable, and collaborative team environment
You will lead a diverse portfolio of land development work throughout New Jersey, including:
- High-profile and visible commercial, multi-family, and industrial facilities
- Commercial, multifamily residential, industrial, and warehouse projects
- Select larger-scale and more complex development assignments
- Projects spanning multiple counties, municipalities, and regulatory jurisdictions
- Genuine ownership of your team, clients, and project portfolio
- Leadership responsibility without utilization or billability pressure
- The ability to remain technically engaged without being a daily CAD producer
- A strong existing team that includes an additional layer of project leadership
- Direct visibility and influence within a modern, growing civil engineering practice
- A diverse project portfolio with opportunities to deepen client relationships and shape future growth
- The stability of an established firm combined with the autonomy to lead your practice area
- 6+ years of site civil engineering and land development experience
- Professional Engineer license required
- Strong knowledge of New Jersey land development regulations, permitting processes, and approval requirements
- Experience navigating NJDEP, county, municipal, and reviewing-agency approvals
- Demonstrated success managing projects, clients, budgets, and schedules
- Experience leading, mentoring, or developing civil engineering teams
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D, although hands-on production is not required
- Strong communication skills and confidence participating in proposals, client presentations, and public meetings
