Associate Principal Mechanical Engineer – New York City

The Associate Principal Mechanical Engineer will play a pivotal role in leading mechanical engineering design for Buro Happold’s Building Environments Group. The position involves working closely with clients, architects, other Buro Happold engineers, and design team members.

• Lead project teams to deliver successful outcomes and ensure project objectives are met.
• Lead the design and technical specifications of mechanical systems, ensuring quality output.
• Manage project resources, client relationships, and deliver high‑quality solutions.
• Guide graduate and junior engineers through professional development.
• Communicate directly with clients and maintain client relationships.
• Contribute ideas and innovative solutions across various projects.
• Direct multiple projects across the group, ensuring successful implementation and financial success.
• Ensure practices, policies, strategy, and services represent the client’s best interests and comply with current legislation and building codes.

• 12+ years of extensive experience in mechanical engineering design within the building services and construction industry.
• Demonstrated experience in a senior role within MEP for an architectural engineering consultancy.
• BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering or a related degree; P.E. (Professional Engineer) preferred.
• LEED AP accreditation preferred.
• Experience using Revit and computational analysis tools.
• Ideal sector experience in aviation/transportation, cultural projects, labs, commercial, and higher education.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, teams, and deadlines while ensuring client satisfaction.

• Salary range $150,000 to $185,000 (based on location, skills, education, experience).
