Associate Principal Mechanical Engineer – New York City
The Associate Principal Mechanical Engineer will play a pivotal role in leading mechanical engineering design for Buro Happold’s Building Environments Group. The position involves working closely with clients, architects, other Buro Happold engineers, and design team members.
Key Responsibilities- Lead project teams to deliver successful outcomes and ensure project objectives are met.
- Lead the design and technical specifications of mechanical systems, ensuring quality output.
- Manage project resources, client relationships, and deliver high‑quality solutions.
- Guide graduate and junior engineers through professional development.
- Communicate directly with clients and maintain client relationships.
- Contribute ideas and innovative solutions across various projects.
- Direct multiple projects across the group, ensuring successful implementation and financial success.
- Ensure practices, policies, strategy, and services represent the client’s best interests and comply with current legislation and building codes.
- 12+ years of extensive experience in mechanical engineering design within the building services and construction industry.
- Demonstrated experience in a senior role within MEP for an architectural engineering consultancy.
- BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering or a related degree; P.E. (Professional Engineer) preferred.
- LEED AP accreditation preferred.
- Experience using Revit and computational analysis tools.
- Ideal sector experience in aviation/transportation, cultural projects, labs, commercial, and higher education.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, teams, and deadlines while ensuring client satisfaction.

- Salary range $150,000 to $185,000 (based on location, skills, education, experience).
