STV’s Buildings Division is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our New York City office.
This role is ideal for an experienced mechanical engineer with strong HVAC design capabilities, project leadership experience, and the ability to collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and junior technical staff.
The successful candidate will support the planning, design, and delivery of mechanical building systems for a diverse portfolio of public and private sector projects. This position will contribute to high-quality, code-compliant solutions from early design through construction while supporting client relationships, technical coordination, and staff development.

Key Responsibilities- Plan, design, and deliver HVAC and mechanical systems for building-focused projects.
- Develop mechanical design concepts and perform engineering calculations, system sizing, and equipment selections.
- Prepare construction documents, design reports, technical specifications, and cost estimates.
- Perform HVAC load calculations, energy modeling, ventilation analyses, and code compliance reviews.
- Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, plumbing/fire protection engineers, and other project stakeholders.
- Support project leadership activities, including scope development, scheduling, budgeting, and resource planning.
- Lead mechanical tasks and work streams while coordinating deliverables across multidisciplinary project teams.
- Meet with clients to discuss project requirements, present technical recommendations, and support resolution of design issues.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, designers, and BIM/Revit staff.
- Support proposal development, client relationship management, and business development initiatives as needed.
- Stay current with evolving building technologies, energy codes, decarbonization strategies, and industry best practices.

- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in HVAC and mechanical systems design for commercial, industrial, municipal, institutional, transportation, and government facilities.
- Demonstrated experience leading mechanical design tasks or projects and mentoring junior technical staff.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, chilled water and heating hot water systems, ventilation and exhaust systems, building automation and controls coordination, and energy-efficient building systems.
- Proficiency with Revit and BIM-based design workflows, including 3D mechanical modeling.
- Experience using HVAC load calculation and energy modeling software.
- Competency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel.
- Working knowledge of ASHRAE standards and guidelines, NFPA standards, building codes, mechanical codes, energy codes, and applicable local/state requirements.
- Experience preparing specifications, technical reports, construction documents, calculations, and cost estimates.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to coordinate effectively with clients, agencies, and project stakeholders.
- Focused experience with federal, state agency, local municipal, transportation, or public-sector facility projects.
- Project management experience, including budget, schedule, scope, and resource coordination.
- Experience with decarbonization, electrification, net-zero, and high-performance building initiatives.
- LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP), WELL AP, Certified Energy Manager (CEM), or similar sustainability credential.
