(#o471yfwu) Summer Intern, Traffic Engineering Design
The Engineering Department is looking for a Traffic Engineering intern to join their team! The Engineering Department provides high quality and cost-effective engineering and architectural design services in a timely manner and in conformance with applicable codes, regulations, and Port Authority technical standards to deliver the Capital and Operating Programs to our client departments.
Responsibilities
- Perform field investigations, inventories, and data collection throughout various PA facilities.
- Assist in studies to improve traffic flow for motorists and pedestrians.
- Support project teams by preparing basic documents, spreadsheets, drawings, and presentation materials.
Minimum Qualifications
- Enrollment at a college or university at the time of the internship
- Major in Civil Engineering with a focus on Transportation
- Valid Driver's License (field work is required at various Port Authority facilities)
Desired Qualifications
- Undergraduate students entering Junior or Senior Year preferred; highly motivated Sophomore-level students with an interest in Traffic Engineering will also be considered
- Ability to create and update drawings using AutoCAD
- Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and organization skills
- Experience with Microsoft Office apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, One Drive, etc.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Interest in contributing to the success of the New York and New Jersey region
- Interest in public service and/or transportation
- Willingness to learn and collaborate
- The start date will be Thursday, May 28, 2026
- The internship will last approximately 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 21, 2026
- This is a full-time internship (5 days per week at 7.25 hours per day)
- In accordance with Port Authority policy, this position permits interns to work remotely a maximum of one day per week. In person collaboration is essential to how the Port Authority conducts business and regular in-office days or team collaboration days may be required depending on business needs. Some internships may require interns to be fully in-person.

- The hourly rate range is $18.07 to $30.31 (the exact rate will be determined by internship type and rising school year)
