Position Description

NSLS-II Electrical Design Group has an opening for a Design Engineer position. Reporting to the Design Group Supervisor, the candidate will perform duties of design and drafting in support of NSLS-II accelerator division. This position will require close interaction with technicians, engineers and scientific staff. A main task will be to provide electro‑mechanical design, document and revision control, and library management, using a variety of CAD/CAM platforms.

Tasking will also include provision of design support for development and special project initiatives.

• Design/documentation of Complex printed circuit boards, schematics and wiring diagrams.
• CAD library management/verification.
• Must have a thorough knowledge of Electro‑Mechanical design fundamentals.
• Ability to work directly with scientific, engineering and technical staff.
• Maintain and implement safety practices and procedures applicable to daily activities.

• Requires a high school diploma or equivalent plus:
• BS degree in a technical field and 6 years work experience or;
• Technical institute, Adult BOCES certification, AA degree in a technical field, CCI program completion at BNL plus 10 years experience or;
• Technical high school certification program (eg. BOCES) and 11 years relevant work experience or;
• 12 years relevant work experience.

• Experience with CAD products supporting schematic capture, PCB Layout including:
  • DxDesigner, Siemens PADS PCB, PADS Logic
• Experience with Microsoft products including Office
• Library management/maintenance
• Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with a diverse group of technical staff
• Experience with CAD products supporting electrical and mechanical design, and complex diagrams including:
  • Cadence OrCad, Alegro
  • Auto Desk Inventor, Auto Cad, Vault
  • MS VISIO

• Experience with ECN Process (Engineering Change Notification)

• Must be safety‑conscious and able to follow detailed written procedures

Brookhaven National Laboratory is committed to providing fair, equitable and competitive compensation. The full salary range for this position is $91,400 - $103,000 / year. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate’s qualification, education and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
