What You Will Do:
GFT is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join our Geotechnical, Dams & Hydraulics team in either New York, NY or Woodbury, NY. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our office.

We provide innovative solutions for foundations, underground construction, earth structures, groundwater resources, dams, and building sites. Our geotechnical engineers and geologists specialize in building and bridge structure foundations, landslides, rock slope stability, and earthen dam stability and seepage. We have completed more than 1,000 subsurface and geophysical projects across the U.S.
- from small-scale projects to large, highways, bridges, retaining walls, landslide repairs and complex dams.

As a Geotechnical Engineer, you will assist in planning and overseeing subdive explorations and performing analyses for transportation, transit and rail, facilities, water resources, and other types of projects.
Inthis capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Lead geotechnical analysis and design efforts for various projects and facilities including, but not limited to shallow and deep foundations, retaining structures, tieback anchors, soil nails, concrete and earth dam slope stability and seepage studies.
- Prepare written reports and documentation, geotechnical correspondence, design and construction drawings and specifications.
- Plan, or assist in the planning of subsurface explorations and laboratory testing investigations.
- Execute subsurface investigations in support of geotechnical design and evaluation efforts, including test boring inspection, site reconnaissance, and other means of data collection as required.
- Assist in preparation of geotechnical and cost proposals
- Provide construction observation support during the construction phase of various projects.
Experience:
What you will bring to our firm:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering is required
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in New York, or ability to obtain professional registration within 6 months of hire date.
- 4-8 years of geotechnical experience with an emphasis in subsurface exploration and/or design and development of geotechnical deliverables including reports, drawings, and specifications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Strong analytical, organizational, and report writing skills
- Strong leadership ability and personal initiative. The candidate is expected to have a genuine long-term interest in geotechnical engineering and a desire to learn and grow professionally.
- Excellent field observation and data collection/documentation skills
- Must be able to work outdoors in all seasons
- Must be able to traverse and carry equipment across rugged terrain
- Must have current Driver's License
- Master's Degree in Geotechnical Engineering
- Experience with management of small work groups and project tasks
- Experience with design build delivery type projects.
- Experience with greater NYC area agencies such as MTA, NYCT, LIRR, MNR, PANYNJ, NYSDOT, etc.
- Experience with common geotechnical software such as APILE, LPILE, SHAFT, SLIDE, Geo Studio, Deep Ex, Plaxis, gINT, etc.
- Experience with Micro Station and AutoCAD
$100,000 - $140,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
