The Lead VDC Electrical Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in New York, NY. This role is responsible for leading the Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) process for electrical systems, including developing and coordinating detailed 3D models, drawings, and documentation for industrial and commercial projects. Day-to-day tasks include collaborating with project managers, engineers, and field teams to ensure designs are constructible, code-compliant, and aligned with project schedules and budgets.
The Lead VDC Electrical Engineer reviews and resolves design clashes, integrates electrical models with other disciplines, and supports prefabrication and installation planning. The role also involves maintaining modeling standards, mentoring junior team members, and participating in client and coordination meetings to communicate design intent and technical solutions.
- Strong foundational knowledge in Electricity and Electrical Engineering, with the ability to apply principles to complex construction projects.
- Proficiency in Electrical Design and Power Distribution for industrial and commercial facilities, including layout, equipment selection, and circuiting.
- Experience with Power Systems, including analysis, load calculations, protective devices, and coordination studies.
- Hands-on experience with VDC/BIM tools (e.g., Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, or similar) for electrical modeling and clash detection.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field; professional licensure or progress toward PE is a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents, electrical schematics, and specifications, and translate them into accurate models.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience working alongside project managers, field personnel, and other disciplines.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced, on-site construction environment.
- Experience with union construction environments, industrial installations, or transportation/infrastructure projects is beneficial.
