Position Overview

ALC Environmental is seeking an experienced Due Diligence Specialist to support and help grow our Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessment services.

The successful candidate will be a hands-on, self-motivated environmental professional who can independently manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, communicate effectively with clients and project teams, and consistently produce high-quality technical work.

This position requires demonstrated experience conducting Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, including subsurface investigations involving soil, groundwater, and soil vapor. The ideal candidate will also possess strong project-management and technical-writing skills and the ability to supervise and mentor junior staff.

This position is part of ALC’s Environmental Health and Safety team, which includes professionals specializing in Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments and related environmental services.

Primary Responsibilities

Manage Phase I and Phase II ESA projects from initial planning through final reporting.
Conduct site inspections and historical, environmental, and regulatory research.
Prepare Phase I ESA reports in accordance with applicable ASTM and professional standards.
Plan and coordinate subsurface investigations involving soil, groundwater, and soil vapor.
Develop work plans, sampling plans, project schedules, cost estimates, and technical reports.
Coordinate with clients, contractors, regulatory and municipal agencies, laboratories, subcontractors, and vendors.
Oversee drilling operations, soil characterization, and the installation of monitoring and temporary wells.
Perform and oversee soil, groundwater, soil-vapor, and air sampling in accordance with applicable federal and state standards.
Supervise subcontractors and environmental field activities.
Evaluate, compile, and manage field and laboratory data.
Prepare figures, maps, boring logs, field reports, and other technical documents.
Conduct environmental construction observations and oversight to confirm compliance with approved work plans.
Review technical specifications and related documents for proposal opportunities.
Anticipate and resolve field-related technical issues.
Develop corrective measures and procedures when necessary.
Mentor junior staff in field procedures, environmental investigations, data evaluation, and report preparation.
Maintain accurate project records and tracking documentation.
Follow ALC’s quality assurance and quality control procedures.
Confirm that all required protocols have been followed and properly documented before reports are finalized.
Perform additional environmental consulting activities as needed.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in geology, environmental science, environmental engineering, or a related discipline.
A minimum of five+ years of relevant experience performing Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments.
Experience using Quire to prepare, manage, and complete environmental reports.
Demonstrated experience independently managing environmental projects, schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
Knowledge of soil characterization, groundwater sampling, and soil-vapor investigation techniques.
Experience using and maintaining environmental field equipment.
Basic understanding of remedial design and construction oversight.
Strong technical-writing, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to prepare thorough, accurate, and professionally written technical reports.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines concurrently.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Ability to meet the physical demands of fieldwork, including lifting equipment and standing or working outdoors for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

Ten or more years of relevant experience performing and managing Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments is strongly preferred.
Knowledge of current ASTM standards applicable to Phase I Environmental Site Assessments.
Familiarity with New York City and New York State environmental regulations and agencies.
Current 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification.
Current OSHA 30-hour card.
