Compensation: $85,000–$135,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications
Lumos Electric LLC is seeking an experienced Electrical Project Engineer / Draftsman to join our growing engineering team. This position will support large-scale commercial, residential, and infrastructure projects throughout New York City.
The ideal candidate will have strong electrical drafting and coordination experience and the ability to support a project from initial drawings through approvals, construction, revisions, and closeout.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and revise electrical drawings, layouts, shop drawings, and coordination drawings
- Develop power, lighting, fire alarm, riser, distribution, feeder, grounding, and branch-circuit plans
- Review contract drawings, specifications, scope documents, addenda, and updated drawing sets
- Coordinate electrical systems with architectural, structural, mechanical, plumbing, and fire-protection trades
- Prepare drawing submissions, equipment submittals, RFIs, sketches, and supporting documentation
- Incorporate engineer, architect, general contractor, and field comments into revised drawings
- Assist with equipment selections, panel schedules, load calculations, feeder sizing, and voltage-drop calculations
- Identify design conflicts, missing information, scope gaps, and constructability concerns
- Support project managers, estimators, field supervisors, and the Director of Engineering
- Maintain accurate drawing logs, revision histories, and project documentation
- Prepare record drawings and as-built packages at project closeout
- Visit project sites as needed to verify existing conditions and coordinate field work
- 5–7 years minimum of relevant electrical drafting, engineering, or design experience
- Experience working for an electrical contractor, consulting engineer, or MEP design firm
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD
- Revit and BIM coordination experience is strongly preferred
- Knowledge of the National Electrical Code and New York City electrical requirements
- Ability to read and interpret electrical, architectural, structural, and MEP drawings
Experience with commercial, high-rise residential, mixed-use, or infrastructure projects - Strong understanding of electrical construction methods and field coordination
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and drawing revisions
- Electrical engineering or drafting education is preferred
- Professional Engineer license is not required
