STV's Buildings Division is seeking a Senior Plumbing / Fire Protection Engineer to join our growing New York Team. This role is ideal for a technically strong engineer who thrives in a leadership position, combining hands-on design expertise with project delivery, client engagement, multidisciplinary coordination, and staff mentorship.

The successful candidate will lead the design and delivery of plumbing and fire protection systems for a diverse portfolio of public and private sector projects, developing innovative, code-compliant, and sustainable solutions in partnership with architects, engineers, owners, and project stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning, design, and execution of plumbing and fire protection engineering projects from concept through construction.
  • Design and oversee building systems including domestic water, sanitary and storm drainage, natural gas distribution, compressed air systems, fire standpipe systems, and wet, dry, pre-action, and special hazard fire suppression systems.
  • Perform engineering calculations, hydraulic analyses, system sizing, and code compliance reviews.
  • Prepare construction documents, technical specifications, engineering reports, and cost estimates.
  • Conduct field investigations, existing-condition assessments, and construction support activities.
  • Serve as the primary technical resource for plumbing and fire protection disciplines on assigned projects.
  • Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, mechanical and electrical engineers, and other project stakeholders.
  • Participate in client meetings, presentations, and business development initiatives.
  • Provide technical oversight, quality assurance, and mentoring to engineers, designers, drafters, and BIM staff in the Philadelphia and Douglassville offices.
  • Support project managers with scheduling, budgeting, staffing, scope development, and resource planning activities.
  • Stay current with industry trends, technologies, sustainability initiatives, and applicable codes and standards.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 7+ years of progressive experience in plumbing and fire protection design for commercial, institutional, industrial, municipal, transportation, educational, or government facilities.
  • Demonstrated experience designing domestic water systems, sanitary and storm drainage systems, natural gas systems, compressed air distribution systems, fire suppression systems, and fire standpipe systems.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Experience performing hydraulic calculations and system modeling.
  • Knowledge of applicable plumbing, fire, mechanical, and building codes.
  • Experience preparing specifications, technical reports, construction documents, and cost estimates.
  • Strong communication, organizational, coordination, and client-facing skills.
  • Ability to lead project teams and effectively mentor junior technical staff.
Preferred Qualifications & Certifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license:
    Strongly preferred;
    Pennsylvania licensure or ability to obtain through reciprocity is highly desirable for candidates leading design and supervising technical work.
  • Certified in Plumbing Design (CPD):
    Preferred credential through ASPE for candidates with deep plumbing systems design experience.
  • NICET certification:
    Preferred in water-based fire protection systems layout, inspection, testing, or related fire protection disciplines, depending on candidate background.
  • LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP):
    Preferred for candidates supporting sustainable building design and energy-conscious project delivery.
  • Experience with Micro Station and Bentley Open Buildings Designer or related Bentley 3D applications.
  • Experience supporting transportation, municipal, industrial, healthcare, education, state agency, or government facility projects.
  • Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and coordinating directly with owners, agencies, and stakeholders.
