This position is a tiered position. Incumbents will have a position level assigned based on their skills and experience, and in alignment with position development plans. Position placement is at Amtrak’s sole andabsolute discretion.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:The Sr. Field Engineer assists in the management of the day-to-day operations of the Communication and Signals(C&S) Department. This includes focusing on safe work practices, FRA mandated compliance testing,maintenance, and repairs. Daily tasks will include responsibilities in both the office and the field in all types ofweather conditions to support a 24/7 operation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:- Ensures safe work practices are adhered to and Amtrak policies and procedures are enforced.
- Directs the C&S department's resources and responsibilities for all FRA inspection and maintenance activities within the territory.
- Ensures regulatory inspections are compliant with Amtrak policies and the FRA CFR.
- Expert level knowledge and experience in all facets of Signal inspection, maintenance, and construction including but not limited to the installation of new Signal construction, micro lock conversion and supporting new track infrastructure projects. Observes field activities to ensure conformance with safety protocols.
- Participates in the planning and implementation of both maintenance and state of good repair programs forthe C&S Department.
- Communicates with the system design office and provides technical support in the field for all maintenance and construction activities.
- Remains available 24/7 to respond to Infrastructure needs, service disruptions, investigations, and discipline.
- Participates in Amtrak’s audit processes.
- Must have knowledge of current collective bargaining agreements (ARASA and BRS).
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Construction Management or equivalent work experience and training in position of similar capacity,
- Minimum of 6 years of experience.
- In lieu of education, a minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience.
- Must be qualified in:
Amtrak’s RWP, NORAC, AMT2, AMT 23/ 27. - Demonstrated leadership experience and ability to interface with all levels of employees, and external and internal customers.
- Demonstrated knowledge and applied experience in railroad operations, operating rules, and divisionaloperating processes and procedures.
- Demonstrated knowledge of project management including scheduling, budgeting, estimating, and coordinating efforts with other technical disciplines.
