Selected candidates who are new hires to the MTA will be appointed at the minimum salary of the posted range, in accordance with applicable MTA compensation guidelines and policies.

Responsibilities

The selected candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including installing, monitoring,

maintaining, testing, troubleshooting, fault detecting and analyzing with NYCT’s

telecommunication network systems.

Candidates will operate various network management systems from a command center or NOC environment and may need to dispatch to the field to perform the tasks, and may be assigned off tour, including weekends to support a 24x7 operation.

Technologies and equipment include but not limited to FIBER, TDM, SONET, ATM, DWDM, COE, ETHERNET and IP, as well as network management systems and Power Plant for communication systems.

Duties also include serving as EMD representative with various vendor supports and in-house maintenance groups; providing technical support and training/knowledge transfer; working with Engineering and Capital Project group to ensure projects are completed to specifications; monitoring contracts; reviewing bulletins, procedures, drawings, contract specifications; organizing communication systems documents, implementing and turning up in-house communication systems.

Education and Experience Telecommunications Associate I-IV (Voice)

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in voice telecommunications (telephone, radio, microwave, fiber optic and cellular service), telecommunications technology, electronics, physics, and/or planning and analysis of electronics system and one year satisfactory full-time experience in the performance of analytical, planning, operational, technical, and/or administrative duties in a voice telecommunications or closely-related electronics planning, electronics management, and/or electronics service environment;

or

An associate degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by 12 semester credits in voice telecommunications (telephone, radio, microwave, fiber optic and cellular service), telecommunications technology, electronics, physics, and/or planning and analysis of electronics systems and two years of the experience described in “1” above; or

A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State’s department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and three years of the experience described in “1” above;

A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to “1”, “2”, or “3” above. College education not used for meeting the minimum requirements in “1” or “2” above may be substituted for
