Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist

Work Location: Brooklyn, NY (Gowanus and Narrows Stations)

Schedule: Full-Time;
Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM;
Out of area and overnight travel as required to attend necessary training

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for the EHS oversight to ensure the department complies with relevant laws and regulations regarding safety, health, and environmental protection. The role includes effective implementation of projects, schedules, contracts, and compliance programs to ensure the NYC sites (Gowanus and Narrows) are in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations, as well as corporate policies, goals, targets, and programs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Complete all functions of the EHS department.
• Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, including USEPA, USCG, NYSDEC, OSHA, NYC DEP/DEC, and FDNY.
• Undertake activities to verify and improve environmental and safety compliance.
• Prepare regulatory filings, reports, and submittals.
• Manage capital and O&M projects.
• Interface directly with all federal, state, and local regulatory entities.
• Work with members of other internal teams and external parties on ongoing matters and projects as needed.
• Perform emergency response activities as required, including but not limited to oil/chemical spill response.
• Oversee the site safety program.

Key Attributes:

• Self-starter with a high degree of initiative and the ability to work independently.
• Ability to deal with complex environmental issues.
• Good project management and communication skills.
• Able to work overtime and extended hours, including emergency call-ins during off hours.

Minimum Qualifications:

• A four-year engineering/EHS-related degree and/or demonstrated experience in project management, environmental due diligence, regulatory compliance, and safety program management.
• A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of environmental laws and regulations, such as CAA, CWA, RCRA, CERCLA, and OPA
  90.
• Must pass a respirator physical/fit test and hold a valid driver's license.
• Must obtain all necessary New York City Fire Department (FDNY) Certificates of Fitness and TWIC.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

• Must be comfortable working in office, laboratory, outdoor, and boiler room settings in all seasons and conditions, including sitting, standing, and walking for long periods, climbing, working at heights, and carrying loads of up to 50 lbs.
• Out of area and overnight travel as required to attend necessary training.
