Agency MissionMTA Construction & Development (C&D) is responsible for the planning, development, and execution of all capital construction projects across the MTA region. Through centralized oversight and management of the MTA's $68.4 billion Capital Program, C&D ensures the efficient delivery of critical infrastructure projects that support the region's vast transportation network. As part of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the largest transportation network in North America, C&D plays a key role in modernizing and expanding services that support 15.3 million residents across New York City, Long Island, southeastern New York State, and Connecticut.
C&D is committed to delivering safe, innovative, and cost-effective capital projects that enhance the customer experience and strengthen the reliability and resilience of the MTA system.
This position is eligible for telework, which is currently one day per week. New hires are eligible to apply 30 days after their effective date of hire.
Job SummaryThe engineer will be involved in all MTA C&D project lifecycle phases for the Signals & Train Controls Business Unit, including planning, scheduling, analysis, design, technical specifications, and reports.
Responsibilities- Designs/supervise various aspects of a project for MTA Signals & Train Controls
- Performs technical and feasibility studies, including analyzing historical data, surveys, reports, and as-builts to create innovative engineering design projects.
- Reviews designs, tests, assesses materials, and performs/reviews engineering calculations.
- Conducts site visits to obtain existing conditions and correctly identify design and construction risks.
- Embraces mentoring from senior staff.
- Adheres to corporate quality control standards within the discipline.
Bachelor of Science degree in the appropriate Engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Structural, Communications, Track, Signals, Environmental, Fire Protection).
Must have a minimum of four (4) years of related experience.
Competencies- Registered NYS Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) required.
- Knowledge of the capital design and construction process.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in current design and engineering software and Microsoft Office are required.
- Experience visiting the field for initial scope/survey and construction oversight preferred.
