DESCRIPTION

Actionplay, a disability-inclusive theatre nonprofit, is seeking an Assistant Stage Manager to assist with rehearsals, tech, and performances for our latest musical, devised collaboratively with an ensemble of autistic, neurodivergent, and disabled teens and young adults.

Rehearsals are Sunday mornings in Midtown Manhattan, 10am-1pm. Tech week and performance weekend will take place at the 14th Street Y.

Job expectations:

• During rehearsals:
  Attend weekly rehearsals and assist the Stage Manager in recording and notating blocking and choreography as needed.
• Document tracks for props and set pieces.
• In rehearsals, read and/or stand in for missing actors if needed.
• Write and disseminate rehearsal reports to staff in the event of the Stage Manager’s absence.
• Cue actors’ lines and entrances in rehearsal.

During the performances:

• Manage performers and properties from the wings.
• Verbally prompt actor entrances if needed.
• Assist actors with props and costume pieces backstage if needed.
• Move set pieces on- and off-stage as needed.
• Fix, activate, and adjust lav mic packs for actors backstage while accounting for diverse touch sensitivities and sensory needs.
• Be prepared to call light, sound, and projection cues from the prompt script in the event of the Stage Manager’s absence.

5:30-9:30pm: 5/4, 5/6, 5/8

TECH WEEK (14th Street Y):

5-10pm: 5/12 through 5/15

10am-7pm: 5/16

SHOWS (14th Street Y):

5/16: 7:30-8:30pm

5/17: 2pm (call time 11am), 7pm;
Strike/Loadout 8:30-11:30pm

The day rate for Assistant Stage Manager is $62.50 per Sunday morning session, $75 per evening session, and $150 per full performance day. Overtime for in-person work is compensated at a rate of $25 per hour over the hours specified in the Actionplay season calendar.
