Event Captain — Lead On‑Site Teams at NYC's Highest‑Profile Catering Events
When 500 guests are seated, the kitchen is firing, and the client is watching — someone needs to be in control. Green Apple Catering & Events is looking for an Event Captain who can manage service teams, solve problems in real time, and deliver the kind of seamless experience that keeps corporate clients coming back year after year. This isn't a behind‑the‑scenes role.
You're the leader on the floor.
The Event Captain is the on‑site authority for Green Apple at every event. You'll direct servers, bartenders, and support staff through setup, service, and breakdown. You'll communicate with the client, coordinate with venue management, and make judgment calls that keep the event running smoothly — even when things don't go according to plan.
- Lead and direct event service teams of 5 to 50+ staff members
- Conduct pre‑event briefings covering menu, timeline, and service standards
- Serve as the primary on‑site contact for clients and venue coordinators
- Manage service timing — courses, toasts, transitions, and breakdown
- Troubleshoot issues in real time without disrupting the guest experience
- Ensure compliance with food safety, alcohol service, and venue policies
- Complete post‑event reports and communicate feedback to the office team
- 2+ years of experience in catering, banquet, or event management
- Proven ability to lead teams under pressure in fast‑paced environments
- Strong communication skills with both staff and high‑profile clients
- Knowledge of plated, buffet, and passed service formats
- Calm, decisive problem‑solving abilities
- Flexibility with scheduling — events run evenings, weekends, and holidays
