Non-Union Bilingual (Spanish/English) Stage Manager - The People's Theatre, New York

Production Period:
September 18–October 11, 2026

The People's Theatre is seeking a non-union bilingual (Spanish/English) Stage Manager to join our inaugural season in our brand-new theatre. This role will stage manage GUAC , the first production in our new home, and work closely with the artistic and production teams throughout rehearsals, technical rehearsals, previews, and performances.

About the Production

GUAC is a one-person, approximately 90-minute bilingual (English/Spanish) play. It is a raw, funny, and deeply moving exploration of loss, love, and the power of turning pain into purpose. After losing his son Joaquin "Guac" Oliver in the Parkland shooting, father—and now activist—Manuel Oliver transforms his grief into a joyous celebration of life and advocacy.

Compensation

Week of September 14

  • $700 – Prep week, production meetings, and weekend rehearsals

Week of September 21

  • $800 – Technical rehearsals and 3 preview performances

September 28 – October 11

  • $1,400 – Performance run (approximately 11–13 performances)

Total Compensation: $2,900

Expected Hours

  • Prep, rehearsal, and performance weeks:
    Under 40 hours per week
  • Tech week:
    Approximately 40–45 hours

Responsibilities

  • Stage manage all rehearsals, technical rehearsals, previews, and performances.
  • Prepare and distribute daily rehearsal and performance reports.
  • Send daily rehearsal and performance calls.
  • Track script changes in both English and Spanish.
  • Call and/or operate lighting, sound, projection, and other technical cues using QLab .
  • Organize and maintain props and backstage operations.
  • Serve as the primary communication liaison between the artistic and production teams.

Additional Paid Opportunities

If you're interested in taking on an additional role during the preview and performance run , you may also be considered for one of the following paid positions:

  • Wardrobe Assistant: $750

Qualifications

  • Previous stage management experience in theatre or live performance.
  • Fluent in both English and Spanish.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience calling cues and managing technical rehearsals.
  • Experience with QLab is required.
  • Collaborative, dependable, and aligned with The People's Theatre's mission.
