Lighting Supervisor, Part-Time
Compensation: $40-42 per hour

Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) is a dynamic performing arts center located in the Hudson Yards neighborhood of New York City. We serve artists and audiences through an annual series of public performances, artist residencies, subsidized space rentals, and more.

Basic Functions and Responsibilities

The Lighting Supervisor reports to the Director of Production and Operations and is responsible for overseeing all lighting and electrical needs for BAC presentations and rentals. This role includes performing show crew responsibilities for assigned projects, including the operation and programming of the lighting console. The Lighting Supervisor prepares lighting information, paperwork, equipment, and expendable supplies for incoming productions, while also maintaining and repairing BAC equipment and technical infrastructure.

Additionally, the position provides day-to-day technical support for resident artists and rental clients, creates technical drawings in Vectorworks as assigned by the Director of Production and Operations, and develops basic lighting designs for BAC presentations and special events, including the annual Fall Fête.

  • Regularly lead strike and load‑out calls
  • Support and encourage efficient progress in any crew call situations
  • Reliably communicate any difficulty with the Rippling HR system to Director of Production and Operations
  • Encourage and enforce careful handling of all equipment
  • Enforce compliance with organizational and venue rules at all times
  • Document equipment inventory as it is introduced to various spaces and projects
  • Keep all BAC equipment storage spaces in impeccable order and constantly improve storage solutions and comprehensive labeling
  • Manage & execute medium-level capital improvement projects to the BAC lighting systems
  • Active participation in planning and execution of all maintenance calls
  • Assist Director of Production and Operations in planning and execution of projects as needed
  • Attend site visits with artists and rental clients as needed
  • Other tasks as needed
Qualifications
  • Work experience in professional theater venues as well as prior experience in a supervisory position in the technical theater field
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Specialty skills in the following areas are required:
    Proficiency with ETC Lighting consoles and networked systems, Vectorworks, Light wright, basic Rigging, basic carpentry
  • Willingness to expand expertise in other specialty skills
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs., work on ladders, Genie lifts, catwalks, and galleries up to 30 feet
Compensation

$40-42/hour

This is a part‑time, hourly position averaging 24 hours per week over a 12‑month period, including weekends and some holidays. The employee's schedule will be determined approximately five weeks in advance.
