Senior Financial Analyst – Brooklyn

Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Financial Analyst – Brooklyn. In this role, the successful candidate Senior Financial Analyst for the NYU Langone Hospital Brooklyn Finance Mission is responsible for analyses regarding Clinical Finance. This includes Financial Reporting, Budgeting, Data Analyzing, and Improving Efficiency / Productivity. The Sr. Financial Analyst reports to the Manager of Finance for the Brooklyn Mission within NYU Langone Hospital and will provide day‑to‑day support to the Manager.

Responsibilities will include assisting in strategic planning, operational and capital budgeting, forecasting activities, creating and providing financial reporting analyses, and collecting, compiling, and analyzing information in an easy‑to‑understand format. The analyst will manage the overall finance target of the mission, maintain a good working relationship with clinical departments to understand budget assumptions, investigate causes of variances, continuously engage with clinical departments to explore revenue and expense opportunities, and handle ad‑hoc requests from the Manager or Senior Director of Clinical Finance.

• Utilizes the Cost Accounting System [EPSi] to obtain Profit & Loss, Contribution Margin, Payor Rates, Trending and opportunities for both Inpatient and Outpatient populations.
• Assists with special projects as needed.
• Incorporates new technologies, systems and processes to improve the daily financial operations of the Brooklyn Hospital Mission Department.
• Provides the Brooklyn Hospital Operations group with financial analyses revolving around patient volume and revenue.
• Utilizes the general ledger system (People Soft) to provide budgetary and actual information using trends and projections.
• Investigates causes of variance with respective departments to identify operational and financial opportunities.
• Provides a monthly budget performance report which includes analyzing differences between budget and actual performance for both revenue and expenses.
• Assists in annual and monthly operating budget planning regarding volume, revenue, and expenses.
• Works with Clinical Departments to create staffing models and analyses related to patient volume.

To qualify you must have a Bachelors degree with a major in a business subject (e.g. accounting, finance, economics) and 3‑5 years of related experience. A graduate in business or public administration is preferred. Other minimum qualifications include excellent oral and written communication skills, analytical skills, problem‑solving skills, and a comprehensive knowledge of all applications within Microsoft Office; specifically with Excel.

You must know VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, sub‑totals, and other Excel functions.

Master’s Degree; proficiency in utilizing Tableau or similar tool; experience with a not‑for‑profit, healthcare institution and a cost or general accounting background preferred. Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
