Overview
A Specialty Lending Senior Professional facilitates the specialty loan underwriting and portfolio management processes for prospective and existing customers of Private Bank and Wealth Management. This role works with the Sales, Product and Credit Risk teams to discuss, analyze, and recommend optimal lending solutions and ongoing credit monitoring that align with Private Banking and Wealth Management customer strategies, while conforming to bank and regulatory policies and procedures.
The Senior Professional will independently interact with Senior Management, Sales Teams, Credit Officers and Debt Restructuring Group to discuss and resolve risk-related issues. The role includes reviewing financials and making recommendations for approval of new requests, annual reviews, renewals and/or modifications.
This role supports Private Bank and Wealth Specialty Lending in underwriting, credit approval and ongoing portfolio monitoring, including annual reviews. It processes straightforward to complex credits with sophisticated personal/family and corporate structures, documentation and/or collateral structures.
The incumbent is expected to mentor/train others on the team, balance profitable credit business with acceptable portfolio credit quality, offer innovative solutions, and maintain a customer-centric approach. It requires a consultative mindset, willingness to challenge the status quo, and understanding of Private Bank and Wealth Management lending products. It models superior customer service and strives to meet target performance goals.
Primary responsibilities- Evaluates appropriateness of loan structure for new loan requests and collaborates with Sales Team, Credit Risk and Underwriting Manager as needed to meet client needs while maintaining the Bank’s credit risk profiles.
- Protects and preserves the integrity of the portfolio, accurately assessing and managing risk, and managing the annual review process through recommendations for approval; ensures compliance with Bank Credit Policy.
- Applies credit skills, product knowledge, industry analysis, and sound judgment to assess and manage credit risk; ranges from standard to complex credit structures including organizational aspects, financial analysis, collateral analysis, loan documentation and covenants.
- Demonstrates knowledge of various loan terms, structures and conditions and applies credit policies in diverse situations.
- Adheres to all Service Level Agreements and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Tests covenants and recognizes events of default while assisting with strategy and action planning.
- Maintains high quality credit file documentation in a paperless environment; tracks and reviews financial statement requirements to ensure compliance with conditions of approval or LTV requirements.
- May participate in direct client contact to gain understanding of the underwriting analysis.
- Adheres to internal underwriting processes and data integrity.
- Works with Private & Wealth Specialty Lending Team members on internal/external audit field work requests and remediation plans.
- Produces a high quality Credit Proposal Summary and relevant appendices with analysis and documentation sufficient for the risk level, including understanding of financial statement causation factors and the borrower’s ability to repay; includes sponsor/guarantor analyses and clear explanations of risk ratings, policy exceptions, special approval items, underwriting guidance variances, and risks/mitigants; runs financial models and surfaces liquidity and leverage concerns.
- Involves additional responsibilities in workflow, client knowledge, communication and risk and regulatory compliance testing as needed.
- Required Qualifications
- 6+ years of experience and demonstrated competency in commercial lending, portfolio management, financial analysis, credit structuring, credit policy, and credit monitoring.
- Comprehensive credit skills with experience in a wide array of complex credit transactions; strong cash flow and financial statement analysis skills.
