Compensation: $300K range base + discretionary bonus

- Strong understanding of legal billing, collections cycles, trust accounting, and IOLTA compliance.
A well-established, multi-office law firm in the NYC metro area is seeking a strategic and operational Chief Financial Officer to partner closely with Managing Partners and senior leadership.
The CFO will lead all financial and risk management operations of the firm, drive financial strategy, and provide actionable insights to ensure long-term sustainability, profitability, and growth. This individual will serve as a trusted advisor to ownership and play a key role in shaping the firm’s financial direction.
Key Responsibilities- Provide strategic financial leadership to Managing Partners through detailed financial analysis, modeling, and performance recommendations.
- Develop, manage, and monitor annual operating budgets and forecasts, including revenue, productivity, profitability, and expense management.
- Lead cash flow strategy, banking relationships, and vendor oversight.
- Implement and strengthen internal financial controls, policies, and procedures.
- Oversee escrow and IOLTA accounts, ensuring compliance and accurate recordkeeping.
- Partner with external CPA firm on annual tax filings and GAAP financial statement preparation.
- Model the financial impact of strategic initiatives, including lateral or group hires and expansion opportunities.
- Evaluate and optimize accounting systems; lead implementation of new systems as needed.
- Develop and maintain documented financial protocols and ensure adherence across offices.
- Identify and mitigate financial and operational risk.
- Oversee Accounting, Billing & Collections, and Financial Reporting & Analysis functions to ensure timely reporting and strong collections performance.
- Collaborate with HR, Marketing, and IT leadership to enhance onboarding/offboarding processes and operational efficiency.
- Support preparation of financial materials for partner meetings and strategic planning sessions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (Master’s preferred).
- CPA strongly preferred but not required.
- 10+ years of senior financial leadership experience within a law firm environment (multi-office experience strongly preferred).
- Deep understanding of partnership compensation models and capital structures.
- Demonstrated experience strengthening internal controls and leading system implementations.
- Executive presence with the ability to advise and influence equity partners.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to translate financial data into strategic recommendations.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, partner-driven environment.
