TheAssistant Director of Finance
The Assistant Director of Finance role exists to assist responsibility for all accounting and financial requirements of his/her company, also for providing financial support, advice and expertise to the Managing Director and hotel team, with the aim of maximizing value. The main responsibilities of a Assistant Director of Finance are managing the accounting records and financial reports, providing an effective control, developing best practice financial accounting and control procedures, supporting, advising and developing his/her team.
SummaryOf Responsibilities Financial Operations & Controls
- Manage daily HSBC banking activity, including cash positioning, transfers, and reconciliations.
- Ensure accurate and timely recording of all daily financial transactions and revenue streams.
- Reconcile all bank accounts and major balance sheet accounts, ensuring integrity and audit readiness.
- Serve as auditor of the General Cashier process, ensuring compliance with policies and internal controls.
- Work closely with the Director of Finance to implement, document, and audit Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Lead the month-end closing process, ensuring deadlines are met and financials are accurate and complete.
- Prepare and submit weekly forecast flash reports.
- Issue weekly General Ledger reports to department leaders for review and follow-up.
- Provide ongoing financial guidance and analytical support to operational leaders as needed.
- Support forecasting and financial performance analysis.
- Coordinate with third party accountants on monthly and quarterly sales tax filings and related documentation.
- Assist with internal and external audits, acting as a key liaison and ensuring timely responses and supporting schedules.
- Review work performed by junior finance team members and support their training and development.
- Act as backup for the Accounting Manager in their absence.
- Act as backup for the Payroll Manager in their absence, ensuring continuity of operations.
- Promote strong financial discipline, collaboration, and accountability across departments.
- 2-5 years as a Assistant Director of Finance in Hospitality
- Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, or related field
- Detailed knowledge of hotel accounting and systems
- Hospitality or multi-department operational finance experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of hotel financial systems, banking, audits, and balance sheet management.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven ability to partner with operational leaders and communicate financial concepts clearly.
- Proficient with Excel and other office applications
- Sun Accounting and Birchstreet desirable
