Job Description & How to Apply Below
Unique opportunity to sit at the intersection of accounting, finance, investments, and fund operations, with real day-to-day exposure to how a lean investment platform actually runs. You’ll work closely with investment professionals and operators who come from top hedge fund and Big 4 backgrounds, and who are genuinely invested in mentoring and developing this hire.
This is a NYC-based family office that operates much more like a hedge fund than a traditional FO. The team skews young, sharp, and hands-on, and the environment is fast-moving with plenty of room to take on responsibility quickly. The platform invests across private equity and hedge fund strategies and also owns and operates a standalone operating business.
Responsibilities- Get fully up to speed on (and eventually own) SEI Family Office software as the firm’s in-house power user
- Record day-to-day accounting activity across the family office structure, including trusts, partnerships, management entities, and foundations (roughly 20%)
- Review and evaluate new transactions to ensure proper accounting and tax treatment for internal reporting
- Complete monthly bank recs, reconcile investment positions, and tie activity to custodian and brokerage statements (roughly 20%)
- Partner with the external tax advisor on ongoing tax planning and coordination for the office (roughly 10%)
- Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages
- Manage and organize office-level payables and expense activity (roughly 5%)
- Prepare year-end financial statements for partnerships and trust entities (roughly 25%)
- Assist with cash forecasting and planning related to capital calls, fundings, and near-term liquidity needs (roughly 5%)
- Take on ad hoc projects and process improvement initiatives as the platform continues to grow (roughly 15%)
- 2–5 years of public accounting experience, ideally with alternative investment, fund, or high-net-worth clients (audit or tax background OK)
- CPA preferred, with a working knowledge of partnerships, trusts, and related tax considerations
- Exposure to investment activity and financial instruments (equities, fixed income, derivatives, etc.)
- Strong Excel skills and experience using accounting systems; interest in learning SEI Family Office software
- Detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, lean environment
