Location: New York
As Senior Accountant, you will be responsible for managing day-to-day accounting functions, monthly and quarterly closes, inter-entity reporting, audit preparation, and financial oversight for us and our regional chapters. Working closely with senior leadership, external auditors, and regional stakeholders, you will ensure accuracy, transparency, and consistency across all financial reporting. This role is ideal for a proactive professional who thrives in a fast-paced, multi-entity environment and brings strong technical accounting expertise, sound judgment, and exceptional organizational skills.
You will play a vital role in supporting organizational growth, strengthening internal controls, and ensuring our financial integrity as we expand our impact.
MONTHLY BOOKKEEPING AND OVERSIGHT
- Transactional-Level Work
- Categorize and post monthly deposits;
- Categorized and post monthly cash disbursements;
- Post additional activity from the bank statements;
- Categorize and post credit card activity;
- Process and enter bi-weekly payroll
- Record investment activity
- Accounting and Reporting
- Monthly soft close financials for USA and Regional Chapters including:
- Reconcile cash receipts between Raisers Edge and Quick Books;
- Reconcile Cash and Investment accounts;
- Reconcile Raisers Edge to Quick Books Online;
- Reconcile and track transfers to Israel;
- Quarterly full close with accrual basis financial statements and analysis;
- Invoicing chapters based on shared expenses expected and incurred
- Liaison with auditors throughout the entire audit process;
- Coordinating the gathering of information from various chapters and bookkeepers to prepare an audit package for the financial statement audit;
- Balance Sheet – based approach. Closing all balance sheet items and providing sufficient audit evidence to balances;
- Analytic Procedures to gain assurance on income statement balances;
- Reviewing all client deliverables to ensure completeness and accuracy or request responses;
- Maintain central location for all audit deliverables;
- Preparing, coordinating, and delivering client assistance documents requested by auditors;
Oversight of internal client finance team and management of finance team deliverables; - Prepare technical accounting memo and guidance on application to financial statements;
- Support in providing information for Annual Form 990;
- Review of draft audited financial statements, Form 990 and Management letter with key management/governance teams
- Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy

- Mission-driven
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 5-7+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit or multi-entity environment
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles
- Hands-on experience with month-end and year-end close processes
- Experience preparing for and managing financial statement audits
- Proficiency with accounting software such as Quick Books Online; experience with Raiser’s Edge or similar fundraising platforms strongly preferred
- Advanced Excel skills, including reconciliations, analysis, and reporting
- Experience with payroll processing and investment activity tracking
- Ability to analyze financial data and present clear, accurate reports to stakeholders
