Title: General Ledger Manager
Salary: $120,000-$160,000
Location: NYC (3 day hybrid)

Description

A growing organization is seeking an experienced General Ledger Manager to oversee general ledger accounting operations and lead a team of staff accountants. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting while maintaining strong internal controls and efficient accounting processes.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on accounting leader who brings strong GAAP expertise, leadership capabilities, and experience managing financial systems and reporting processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • General Ledger & Financial Reporting:
    Oversee general ledger accounting operations, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
  • Month-end and year-end close:
    Manage the month-end and year-end close processes, including account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statement preparation.
  • Close calendar:
    Prepare and distribute the monthly close calendar, ensuring deadlines and deliverables are met.
  • Journal entries:
    Review and approve recurring and non-recurring journal entries, including revenue recognition, deferrals, accruals, payroll entries, and prepaids.
  • Accounting transactions:
    Manage accounting transactions including assets, liabilities, equity, expenses, and accruals.
  • Reconciliations:
    Review and monitor bank reconciliations and other balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Policies and controls:
    Maintain and help develop accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Financial statements:
    Assist with preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Audits and regulatory:
    Support external audits and regulatory reporting, providing documentation and responding to audit requests.
  • Revenue recognition:
    Partner closely with the Billing and Accounts Receivable team to ensure proper revenue recognition and reporting.
  • Chart of accounts:
    Help maintain and manage the organization’s chart of accounts, classes, and departmental coding structures.
Payroll & Expense Oversight
  • Payroll journal entries:
    Review and manage weekly payroll journal entries and related accruals.
  • Payroll reconciliations:
    Perform monthly reconciliation of payroll expense accounts.
  • Payroll funding:
    Ensure payroll funding is adequate to cover scheduled disbursements.
  • Payroll validation:
    Validate payroll transactions and reconcile against funding reports.
  • Annual payroll cost reconciliations:
    Oversee annual payroll cost reconciliations.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
  • Lead and manage a team of 5 staff accountants, providing guidance, training, mentorship, and performance feedback.
  • Adherence to policies:
    Ensure adherence to accounting policies, procedures, and reconciliation standards.
  • Team environment:
    Promote a collaborative, high-performing accounting team environment.
  • Scheduling and coverage:
    Assist in managing scheduling and team coverage to ensure operational continuity.
  • Process improvement:
    Identify opportunities to improve process efficiency, scalability, and financial controls.
  • Projects:
    Participate in special projects and cross-functional initiatives as assigned by finance leadership.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics (required)
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, including a mix of public and private accounting environments
  • Experience managing general ledger operations and accounting teams
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and revenue recognition (ASC 606)
  • Demonstrated experience with financial reporting, journal entries, reconciliations, and close processes
  • Net Suite experience required
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities
  • Highly organized with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
