  • Design and implement internal controls (segregation of duties, approval thresholds, documentation standards).
  • Drive the month‑end close cycle, targeting a near‑daily close cadence, and ensure accuracy, timeliness, and continuous improvement.
  • Own revenue accounting under ASC 606, including contract review, performance obligations, deferred revenue, and revenue recognition logic.
  • Support the quote‑to‑cash process via Commerce Hub, including vendor spend, T&E, and collections coordination.
  • Maintain payroll accounting using Rippling, manage commissions, bonuses, equity‑related payroll, and ensure compliance with state/federal tax obligations.
  • Manage equity and cap‑table accounting (ASC 718) and maintain the relationship with external tax providers.
  • Lead a modern ERP migration (e.g., Quick Books Online to Rillet or similar) and integrate accounting stack across Rippling, Commerce Hub, Invoice Butler, and Hub Spot.
  • Deploy AI/LLM tools to accelerate close, anomaly detection, reconciliations, and memo drafting.
  • Lead, develop, and mentor the accounting team, including the in‑house accountant and offshore teams; expand the team by hiring additional talent.
Key Success Indicators
  • Successful completion of the first annual audit with findings resolved.
  • Month‑end closure completed with high accuracy and minimal cycle time.
  • Implementation of robust controls that reduce audit risk in revenue, software capitalization, stock compensation, and accruals.
  • Successful migration to a modern ERP platform and full integration of the accounting stack.
  • Effective use of AI to streamline accounting processes, reduce manual effort, and improve data quality.
  • High team engagement and continuous skill development across in‑house and offshore staff.
Qualifications

  • 5–10 years progressive corporate accounting at early‑stage, venture‑backed startups (required).
  • Public accounting experience with a Big 4 or mid‑tier audit firm (required).

  • Deep expertise in ASC 606 and other GAAP revenue accounting.
  • Hands‑on mastery of month‑end close, including accruals, reconciliations, and flux analysis.
  • Experience with ASC 350‑40 software capitalization.
  • Process and internal control design experience.
  • People‑management experience, including in‑house and offshore teams.
  • Experience with Rippling for payroll, T&E, and vendor spend.
  • AI‑forward mindset; familiarity or experimentation with LLMs to accelerate accounting workflows.
  • Knowledge of ASC 718 equity compensation and cap‑table management.
  • Bias toward automation, clarity, and leveraging technology.
Bonus‑Points
  • Previous Controller or Assistant Controller role at a Series A–C SaaS company.
  • Experience implementing modern ERPs such as Rillet, Net Suite, or Sage Intacct.
  • Knowledge of Stripe, Hub Spot, and Commerce Hub in a quote‑to‑cash and revenue context.
  • Direct interaction with Big 4 or top‑tier audit firms during a company’s first audit.
  • Experience with subscription billing and revenue automation tools such as Chargebee or Maxio.
  • Familiarity with cap‑table platforms (Carta, Pulley) and ASC 718 modeling.
