Job Description
The Assistant Director of Finance is responsible for assisting the Director of Finance in overseeing all financial operations of the hotel. This role involves managing accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a keen eye for detail, and a solid understanding of hotel accounting principles.
Responsibilities- Financial Reporting:
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and potential risks.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management and ownership.
- Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Assist in developing annual budgets and forecasts.
- Monitor actual performance against budget and forecast, and take corrective action as needed.
- Analyze variances and provide explanations for significant deviations.
- Accounting and Controls:
- Oversee the general ledger and ensure accurate and timely posting of journal entries.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable functions.
- Implement and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
- Coordinate with the property accounting team to ensure accurate and timely processing of transactions.
- Tax Compliance:
- Assist in preparing and filing various tax returns, including sales tax, payroll tax, and property tax.
- Stay updated on tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance.
- Team Management:
- Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals.
- Recruit, hire, and train new team members.
- Provide ongoing training and development opportunities to staff.
- Evaluate team performance and provide constructive feedback.
- Special Projects:
- Undertake special projects as assigned by the Director of Finance.
- Collaborate with other departments to identify and implement cost-saving measures.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 5+ years of experience in hotel accounting or a related field.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and hotel accounting principles.
- Proficiency in financial software (e.g., Opera, Micros, Marriott, Hilton).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- CPA certification or CMA certification.
- Experience with hotel management systems (PMS).
- Knowledge of revenue management and yield management principles.
