We are seeking to recruit a Principal for our Private Climate Investing Team ("CIF"). CIF is a venture‑growth stage fund investing in companies developing solutions that help mitigate and/or adapt to climate change. The investment strategy will span a broad set of sectors including energy, buildings, smart cities, industrial efficiency, mobility, and food and agriculture, typically with tech‑enabled applications and solutions.

The Principal will be responsible for generating deal flow, leading thematic research, conducting in‑depth due diligence, developing investment recommendations, and managing support of portfolio companies. In addition, the ideal candidate will help oversee and develop high performing talent and work closely with our impact, investing, value creation, and capital formation teams. The ideal candidate will be a self‑directed, hard‑working team player who has experience and is passionate about private investing, transformative technologies, and climate.

This position will be located in New York City, with potential to be based in Boston or San Francisco for the right candidate.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS
The following essential skills are required for the role:

  • Lead and execute comprehensive end‑to‑end due diligence processes for prospective investments, including financial modeling, market analysis, technical validation of climate technologies, competitive landscape assessment, and management team evaluation.
  • Rigorous evaluation of emerging climate technologies and business models across various sectors (e.g., renewable energy, industrial automation, energy efficiency, circular economy), assessing their market potential, scalability, competitive advantage, and alignment with the fund’s investment thesis. A strong familiarity with companies in the Energy tech sector is preferred.
  • Collaborate effectively with portfolio companies, co‑investors, limited partners, and internal teams to provide strategic guidance, support post‑investment growth, and foster a strong ecosystem for climate innovation.
  • Proactively source new deal opportunities through innovative idea generation, thematic research, and extensive networking within the venture ecosystem, identifying promising startups and disruptive technologies before they are widely known.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
A successful candidate should have the following qualifications:

  • 5-10 years of relevant experience including 2-5 years in a private markets investment role, ideally at a venture capital firm.
  • Established industry relationships and network to source deal flow of companies and industries that serve both climate mitigation and adaptation, including entrepreneurs, adjacent funds, accelerators.
  • Superior financial modeling skills, confidence to build financial model from scratch incorporating key assumptions about a company’s growth trajectory, expenses, and revenue drivers.
  • Independence of thought, intellectual curiosity, and an entrepreneurial nature.
  • Strong academic credentials and track record: an undergraduate degree is required, MBA is preferred.

Not sure you meet 100% of our qualifications? That’s ok. If you believe that you could excel in this role, we encourage you to apply and welcome a chance to review your background. We are dedicated to building and maintaining a diversified workforce and consider a broad array of candidates with a variety of skills, workplace experiences, and backgrounds.
