Actuaries at New York Life are actively involved in many aspects of the company's operations, including the design and pricing of products, the evaluation of the company's financial results, and setting the strategic vision of the company. We provide our actuarial interns with challenging actuarial projects to expose them to the theoretical and practical applications of actuarial science.
New York Life's Winter Actuarial Internship is a structured program, from late November 2025 to April 2026. Our internship provides students with the opportunity to participate in a challenging assignment to gain practical on the job experience. There will be the opportunity to participate in professional development opportunities such as learning about different actuarial roles, meeting with NYL professionals and actuaries and participating in a mentorship program.
Positions are available in our NYC office. Remote opportunities may be supported.
What You'll Do- Developing premiums and benefits for new or enhanced insurance and annuity products
- Designing new products and product features
- Projecting profitability generated by the company's products
- Analyzing matching of assets and liabilities and developing optimal investment strategy
- Quantifying the company's risk exposure and proposing ways to minimize risk
- Performing actuarial research and statistical analyses
You bring excellent written and oral communication skills, a strong desire to learn and identify improvement opportunities and the ability to think strategically and analytically. You'll have knowledge of modeling packages, programming languages, and spreadsheet/database software.
Required SkillsCurrently an undergraduate junior or senior, or in a Master's program working towards a degree with an accredited college or university (preferred majors in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Sciences, Economics, or Finance). Recent graduates and career changers may also apply.
Passage of one or more Society of Actuaries exams (working toward ASA/FSA designation).
Preferred Skills- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Strong written and oral communication, and strong interpersonal skills
- Analytically minded
- Prefer knowledge of modeling packages, programming languages, and spreadsheet/database software
- Salary Range: $28-$33/hour
