Role Overview

The Financial Advisor Trainee (FA Trainee) role is a transitional program designed to equip candidates with the skills necessary to qualify for the Financial Advisor Associate (FAA) role. Upon completion of the trainee program, candidates will transition into the FAA role, where they will attract and retain clients by addressing their wealth management advisory needs.

Responsibilities
  • Meet with prospects and clients to analyze financial information, including income, cash flow, assets, and liabilities.
  • Understand short-term and long-term financial goals and educate clients on investment and insurance strategies.
  • Recommend personalized investment and insurance solutions aligned with clients’ financial objectives.
  • Act as a fiduciary and put clients’ financial interests first, providing objective advice for long-term planning and annual reviews.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships through ongoing consultation, advice, planning, and day-to-day account servicing.
  • Build and deepen customer relationships by assisting with service issues and identifying clients’ financial needs.
  • Utilize a financial needs assessment tool to identify annuity and insurance sales opportunities and referral prospects to TD Wealth businesses and affiliates.
  • Meet the insurance agency requirements, policies, and procedures for annuity and insurance sales, including qualified accounts under TD Wealth policies.
  • Recommend and fulfill direct sales of annuity and insurance solutions where suitable.
  • Educate TD Bank employees on wealth products, annuities, and insurance, including sales training for licensed insurance agents.
  • Maintain ongoing relationships with insurance and annuity clients and refer to TD Wealth businesses and affiliates based on customer needs.
  • Handle all aspects of insurance and annuity business in the region, including sales, renewal process, application intake, delivery, and servicing.
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of TD Wealth products and services to make appropriate referrals.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of annuity and insurance products, local market trends, competitive offers, and regulatory changes.
  • Provide accurate and complete reporting as required by management.
  • Meet regularly with retail bank employees to educate on annuity and insurance offerings.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree (strongly preferred). 1+ years of relevant work experience or college degree.
  • Mandarin or Cantonese language preference.
  • Security Industry Essentials (SIE) exam required.
  • Ability to obtain Life & Health, Series 7, and Series 66 (or equivalent) licenses within the licensing schedule.
  • Self-directed with strong planning skills to achieve sales and referral goals.
  • General understanding of wealth products and services.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Willingness to travel for training classes and to commute to the assigned office for in-person training and studying five days a week.
Licensing & Registration
  • Must be eligible for employment under FINRA standards and comply with FINRA Rule 3110(e).
  • Successful completion of criminal background check, credit report check, civil litigation search, regulatory agency or self-regulatory organization enforcement action search, and required statements/certifications as per federal law.
Physical Requirements

Travel:
Frequent domestic travel; no international travel.

General tasks:
Sedentary work, multiple tasks, use of standard office equipment, occasional standing, walking, lifting, and other light physical activities.
