Director of Accounting
Position DescriptionInstitutional Commodity Services (ICS) was founded and headquartered in the Archdiocese of New York; it also serves the Archdiocese of Newark and the Dioceses of Albany, Bridgeport, Brooklyn, and Camden.
Reports to: Director of CSC
Work Location: 488 Madison Avenue, New York, NY 10022
Key Responsibilities- Manage monthly and year-end closing of financial records and posting of month-end and year-end information.
- Maintain journals for accruals, inventory, depreciation, and other necessary adjustments to journal entries.
- Prepare monthly financial statements for IFC.
- Supervise IFC Administrative Assistant and oversee accounts receivable and payable functions. Train and evaluate employees to enhance performance.
- Respond to financial questions/concerns of the Finance Office of the Archdiocese of New York.
- Access lockbox bank account and download ACHs, copies of checks and supporting documentation. Prepare Excel spreadsheet showing distribution of checks received and send info to designated IFC staff.
- Approve bank transfers and EFTs and enter bank fees into Lawson accounting system.
- Approve monthly bank reconciliations and prepare daily cash report.
- Biweekly, prepare and distribute an outstanding receivables report to Director.
- Identify process improvement opportunities to enhance financial and informational reporting.
- Act as liaison between the Archdiocese and outside accounting firm in connection with year-end audits and ensure that proper information is maintained for historical purposes.
- Prepare and recommend department budget for approval. Monitor spending for adherence to budget and identify variances as necessary.
- Establish/maintain cyclical schedules (biweekly, monthly, quarterly) for the major IFC accounting functions.
- Provide sales reports and various analyses for the Director.
- Assure that policies, practices, methods and procedures conform to the professional standards and to the mission and ethical values of the Archdiocese.
- Review equipment sourcing proposals prepared by Equipment Sourcing Administrative Assistant and assist in establishing pricing for all products sold.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- Minimum 3-year supervisory experience required
- Public accounting experience preferred; CPA preferred
- Working knowledge of Catholic church structure and organization
- Well-organized, with ability to multitask, set priorities, and meet deadlines
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent computer skills, especially Microsoft Excel; knowledge of Infor Lawson is a plus
Compensation range for this position is: $100,000 - $120,000 annually.
This position is considered exempt and not eligible for overtime.
