Head of Finance and Financial Operations; Insurtech​/Insurance Background

We are a venture-backed operating platform supporting two high-growth companies: an established category leader in the insurtech/real estate technology space, and a second venture-backed company currently in stealth and pre-launch. This Controller role sits at the center of both businesses, overseeing all accounting and financial operations across the portfolio.

We are seeking a hands‑on, strategic Head of Finance and Financial Operations to build the finance function from the ground up across two high‑growth companies: an established insurtech leader and a venture‑backed stealth‑stage insurance infrastructure company. This is a founding finance role where you’ll establish scalable accounting processes, implement controls, and provide the financial insights that guide business decisions across the portfolio.

As an early finance leader, you’ll own the entire financial operation, from general ledger, to board reporting, to strategic FP&A. You’ll work directly with leadership to shape how both companies scale, with insurance or insurtech experience giving you a significant advantage in understanding the unique operational and regulatory landscape.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a startup environment, understands the insurance space, and is excited to build something meaningful in a fast‑moving, early‑stage context.

• Own all core accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, reconciliations, and month‑end/year‑end close
• Design and implement scalable accounting systems, controls, and policies
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and relevant regulations
• Prepare and analyze financial statements, management reports, and board materials
• Partner with leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning (FP&A)
• Manage audits, tax filings, and relationships with external auditors and advisors
• Oversee cash flow management and optimize working capital
• Partner with Claims on various initiatives
• Track claims payments and recoveries
• Maintain accurate records of claims and commissions

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Proficiency with Quick Books
• Experience with Excess & Surplus (E&S) Insurance Brokerage structures is highly desirable
• 6–10 years of progressive accounting/finance experience (startup, fintech, Insurtech, or insurance brokerage experience a plus)
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
• Proven ability to build processes from the ground up in a fast-paced environment
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
• Ability to operate both strategically and tactically
