A floor trader is a member of a stock exchange who trades for their own account, also known as registered competitive traders, liquidity providers, or locals. This career is high‑risk and requires significant knowledge and financial commitment.

• Obtain an exchange membership seat; NYSE seats cost approximately two million USD, while an annual membership at the Chicago Stock Exchange is about $7,000 USD.
• Consider leasing a membership temporarily if upfront cost is prohibitive, but eventually secure ownership.
