Actuarial Associate – Actuarial Operations (MS Transverse Insurance Group)
senior individual contributor actuarial role focused on building and improving actuarial infrastructure and tooling
, rather than producing traditional pricing or reserving opinions.
You sit between the Pricing and Portfolio (Reserving) teams
, acting as the “engine room” that:
- Removes manual and technical friction from actuarial workflows
- Builds scalable actuarial tools and automation
- Ensures outputs are consistent, reproducible, and auditable
- Strengthens the connection between pricing assumptions and reserving results
1. Build & automate actuarial systems
- Develop Python-based actuarial tools (reserving pipelines, pricing templates, simulation frameworks)
- Write and optimize SQL for data extraction, QA, and transformation across actuarial workflows
- Support further reserving automation initiatives — ceded reserve processing, executive dashboard development, and other recurring reporting requirements
- Lead projects end-to-end (scope → build → test → documentation → handoff) with minimal supervision
- Develop and maintain the Actuarial Knowledge Base — a structured repository of program history, parameters, and decision context that supports AI‑assisted actuarial workflows
- Design and enforce documentation standards so analysis products are consistent and auditable across the team
- Support Project Mercury — MST’s automated actuarial reserving pipeline — including ongoing development, QA, and documentation
- Perform actuarial reasonableness reviews on reserving outputs; elevate findings to the Portfolio actuarial team
- Assist in due diligence pricing analyses for new program opportunities and monitor portfolio performance versus expectations
- Support the Pricing–Reserving feedback loop by maintaining structured linkages between reserve development and pricing assumptions
- Perform post-normalization actuarial reasonableness checks on bordereaux (BDX) data following Data Ops processing
- Manage and improve the industry benchmark repository (LDFs, trend indications) using sources such as ISO and S&P Capital IQ
- Contribute to Claude AI Skill development — building retrieval‑augmented workflows that surface actuarial context at the point of need
Must have:
- 5+ years P&C actuarial experience
- ACAS designation
- Strong Python (production‑level, not just analysis scripts)
- Strong SQL (independent query building and optimization)
- Demonstrated ability to run projects independently end‑to‑end
- Strong understanding of P&C fundamentals, reserving concepts, and pricing methodologies
- MGA / delegated authority experience
- Reinsurance & ceded reserving knowledge
- Experience with chainladder Python package / reserving automation tools
- Git / Git Hub familiarity
- Exposure to AI‑assisted analytics workflows
- Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field
