Client Overview:
Our client is a mission-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and communities through innovative programs and strategic partnerships. Their organization manages a diverse portfolio of government and private foundation grants and is committed to operational excellence, financial stewardship, and sustainable growth. They are currently looking to add a Finance Director to their team.
Salary/Hourly Rate$55/hr - $60/hr
$110k - $125k (Permanent)
The Finance Director will play a critical leadership role in overseeing grant accounting, nonprofit finance operations, Medicaid Redesign Program (MRP) revenue cycle activities, and strategic financial initiatives. This Finance Director will devote approximately 70% to 80% of their time to Finance, Grants, and Medicaid Redesign Program revenue cycle functions, with the remaining 20% to 30% focused on strategic initiatives and executive-level financial support.
The ideal candidate is a highly analytical finance professional with extensive nonprofit and grant management experience, strong leadership capabilities, and the ability to provide actionable financial insights to executive leadership.
- Oversee the financial management and accounting of a complex portfolio of government, foundation, and other grant-funded programs.
- Ensure compliance with grant agreements, funding requirements, and reporting deadlines.
- Prepare, review, and analyze financial reports for executive leadership and external funders.
- Manage Medicaid Redesign Program revenue cycle processes and related financial reporting activities.
- Monitor grant expenditures, budgets, reimbursements, and revenue recognition.
- Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning efforts.
- Collaborate with program leaders to ensure appropriate financial management of funded initiatives.
- Develop and strengthen internal controls, policies, and financial procedures.
- Lead strategic financial initiatives and provide executive support on special projects and organizational priorities.
- Serve as a key liaison with funders, auditors, and internal stakeholders.
- Minimum of 6 - 8 years of progressive grant accounting and/or nonprofit finance experience.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex grant portfolios.
- Direct experience preparing financial and operational reports for executive leadership.
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit financial management principles and grant compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with private foundation funding requirements.
- Direct experience working with New York City and New York State funding agencies and requirements, including DFTA, DYCD, OTDA, and other municipal and state funders.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Advanced proficiency with financial reporting and budget management.
- Familiarity with PASSPort.
- Familiarity with New York State Grants Gateway.
- Knowledge of OMB Uniform Guidance.
- Experience supporting organizational strategic initiatives and executive-level decision-making.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business is required.
