Senior Relationship Associate
The Senior Relationship Associate is a senior‑level position responsible for assisting clients in raising funds in the capital markets, as well as providing strategic advisory services for mergers, acquisitions, and other types of financial transactions in coordination with the Corporate Banking team. The role also serves as an intermediary in trading for clients, with the overall objective of acting as a strategic advisor by formulating investment strategies and raising capital for clients.
Responsibilities- Serve as the key contact for routine credit requests, negotiation of routine credit documentation, confirmation of support, negotiation of support documentation, problem escalation and resolution for client network and operational teams, and help clients navigate Citi’s global network, local coverage, and product support.
- Assist with preparing for relationship reviews and with timely origination/monitoring/renewal/completion of Know Your Client (KYC) requirements across all products and marketing levels.
- Interact with cash managers, assistant treasurers, and other treasury personnel from an assigned portfolio of clients for transactional banking issues and support, engaging appropriate teams to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Ensure timely resolution and client satisfaction on all financial and operational investigations including credit, foreign exchange, cash management, trade services, etc.
- Facilitate credit originations, credit allocation, approvals, documentation, bookings, fee collections and renewals for Standby Letters of Credit and justify exceptions where appropriate.
- Negotiate language for largely standardized FX/Derivative transactions, LCs, or working capital loans, as needed.
- Identify revenue opportunities and position certain products with clients and monitor revenues, billing and service queries, correct mapping/marketing hierarchies in Citi Investment Strategies (CIS).
- Represent banking coverage team in client meetings and make decisions and take initiative in the absence of the banker, including assisting in closing transactions when appropriate.
- Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm’s reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, adhering to policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing, and reporting control issues with transparency.
- 15+ years of relevant experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or closely related areas of business administration.
- Demonstrated credit skills, including a background in credit (financial accounting, commercial lending theories, industry awareness, loan structuring, etc.) preferred.
- Knowledge of Citi’s product range and proficiency in Citi applications (e.g., ICG Toolbox and AMC).
- Comprehensive knowledge of documentation requirements (e.g., Letters of Comfort, parent guarantees, LC’s and their agreements, ISDA/CSA, Short Term Loan agreements, Cards Agreements, etc.).
- Comprehensive knowledge of client’s business and operations, including treasury model and philosophy (funding model, cash management strategy, decision making, subsidiary support policy, wallet sharing, who is in the bank group, etc.).
- Comprehensive knowledge of industry trends, basic accounting concepts, current banking relationship, return hurdles (for CB RAs), relationship strategy etc.
- Demonstrated ability to articulate requirements and support the negotiation of documents, contribute to development and execution of accounts, and review and extract information from financial statements/filings.
- Proven analytical aptitude to learn and sound judgment.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt and moderate communication style to coordinate with others involved in the client portfolio.
- Bachelor's degree/University degree or equivalent experience.
- Master’s degree preferred.
