Position Summary

We are seeking a seasoned finance professional to serve as Finance Director, a senior role partnering closely with the Chief Financial Officer to drive the day-to-day operations and strategic priorities of the Fiscal Department. The ideal candidate is a trusted, highly organized leader who can move fluidly between hands‑on financial work and high‑level project management, anticipate the needs of executive leadership, and represent the CFO’s office across the organization.

This role oversees an assigned portfolio of grants, contracts, and third‑party billing — including Medicaid billing and revenue cycle operations — while also leading cross‑functional initiatives, special projects, and executive‑level reporting on behalf of the Fiscal Department.

Finance, Grants & Medicaid Redesign Program Revenue Cycle (70% - 80%)
  • Prepare financial reports and invoices for all grants, contracts, and third‑party payers to ensure timely and accurate submission to government funders, private foundations, and Social Care Network.
  • Ensure financial compliance with government, private foundation, and Medicaid Redesign program funding and billing requirements.
  • Review journal entries, allocations and monthly books closings.
  • Oversee Medicaid Redesign program billings, operations and processes, including denial management, reconciliations and reporting.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for inquiries from funders, payers (program leadership, and other key stakeholders across Met Council and external agencies).
  • Oversight of Capital Projects financing.
Strategic Initiatives & Executive Support (20% - 30%)
  • Partner directly with the Chief Financial Officer to advance the priorities of the Fiscal Department, managing the cadence of key deadlines.
  • Help with the preparation of special financial reports, projections, and financial statements for Met Council.
  • Act as a trusted extension of the CFO across the organization, representing the Fiscal Department in cross‑functional meetings, following up on action items, and ensuring alignment between Finance and program, development, HR, and executive teams.
  • Coordinate cross‑departmental finance initiatives on behalf of the CFO, including process improvements, system implementations, and ad‑hoc strategic projects.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.
  • Adaptability and Flexibility.
  • Computer Skills.
  • Motivation.
  • Creative and Innovative Thinking.
  • Analysis and Reasoning.
  • Teamwork.
  • Relationship Building.
  • Mathematical Thinking.
  • Accountability and Dependability.
Skill and Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Economics or Business (required).
  • At least 6‑8 years of progressive grant accounting and/or nonprofit finance experience (required), including leadership of complex grant portfolios and direct experience preparing reports for executive leadership; familiarity with Private Foundations, New York City and New York State funder requirements (DFTA, DYCD, OTDA, etc.) (required).
  • Hands‑on experience with SCN billing and revenue cycle management (required), including claim submission, denial management, eligibility verification, and reconciliation of SCN receivables; familiarity with eMedNY and/or SCN Managed Care billing strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate as a trusted partner to senior leadership (required), with experience managing executive‑level priorities, and drafting reports for C‑suite audiences, and discreetly handling sensitive financial and personnel matters.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, IF functions) (required).
  • Must possess strong critical thinking, judgment, and project management skills; able to understand the impact of budgets, contracts, and revenue streams across the agency and translate complex financial information into clear guidance for non‑finance stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with PASSPort, Grants Gateway (preferred).
  • Familiarity with OMB Uniform Guidance (preferred).
